View Full Version : Live users being banned

I seems that a number of people are now starting to get banned from Live play. It's supposed to be linked to modified consoles, but "legit" players are complaining they have been banned without cause.

This is coming from numerous threads in the official xbox live forums.

Here is a quote from Major Nelson:
As you can imagine, we have a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to modded consoles connecting to LIVE.
We're very serious about this, and if we detect you have a modded Xbox then you will not be able to connect to Xbox Live. If you see this screen and get Status Code: Z: 8015 - 190D…that means your console has been banned.

We'll continue to enforce this rule to ensure the integrity of the service and protect our partners and users.

UPDATE

Here is a pic that's going around now...

Do you get any sort of warning, or is it just a straight up ban? Is there anyway to lft the ban?

Good thing I have not flashed my xbox yet..

from what I've read so far, you just get an error when connecting to live. The legit users are supposed to be sorted out in "due time".

it might be only the beta testers for halo 3, that are getting banned. I've seen a few reports of people admitting that they have modded consoles and they are still playing on live without any problems.

that sucks!!

>> With the amount of posts (http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=603326) we see on our forums ... it's clear, Microsoft decided to start banning Xbox360 with modified firmwares today (both Hitachi-LG and Toshiba-Samsung drives).
While it's the same release date as Halo3 beta, it seems that people who didn't download Halo3 also get banned. They probably detect backup discs (and not the modified firmware) when you play 'em online (not confirmed yet).
Even people using the new firmwares with disc-jitter added get banned, so it looks like Microsoft found another way to detect it.
Just like on Xbox1 it looks like Microsoft bans the console unique ID (serial), not the LIVE user. Microsoft will not allow anyone to login on LIVE on a banned console.
Many people on the official xbox.com (http://forums.xbox.com/14/ShowForum.aspx) forums also claim they got banned but didn't have a flashed firmware ... we'll have to see how that story develops in the coming hours and days

i'm reading more reports of people that DIDN'T even have access to the halo 3 beta, and still were banned.

Another note:

Microsoft can't remove the ban once it's in place. The console is banned, period. You will have to send it TO microsoft for a "repair". I have also been in touch with a close friend who does NOT have a modified console, and he was banned today as well.

updated the first post with a pic that displays the error you'll soon receive after failing to connect to Live.

So this ban does not allow you to do ANYTHING with your console? Not even browse the dashboard?

Number 2
05-18-2007, 01:30 AM
you can log into your dashboard and play games just fine but you can not log into xbox live.

other reports are also stating it's only back-up games that are being detected, and not flashed firmware. Let's keep the back-up media/games talk out of the thread from here on out, but I thought it was important enough to at least mention.

I am confused about that picture, what does it have to do with the network card? Is it just acting like its disabled or something so you can't get online?

F34R
05-18-2007, 01:54 AM
When you can't access live, the console wants to do a test. After the test fails, click on Network Adapter. I don't know why it shows there, but that's where the error in the pic is located.

to be quote clear on the matter, there are several legit people that have had their consoles banned as well. Believe it or not, I have a personal friend that doesn't have a modded console, and his console is now banned. If they want to keep pirated games off Live, that's their [Microsoft] choice. They do need to really work on their detection methods. They are ruining the experience for many other people as well. A lot of people are afraid to even use Live right now, with all the reports of legit consoles being banned alongside modified consoles.

This doesn't have anything to do with legal, or illegal. It's perfectly legal to back-up an original disc, as long as you retain the original media. I know a few people that use back-up games for the purpose of preserving the original media [360 game]. Now, granted, this isn't always the case. On the contrary, there are far more people pirating games, than using legitimate reasons to back-up their game library.

What Microsoft has done, in this case, is open a door, I'm not sure they were prepared to explore what was on the other side. It's already been stated, not 100% confirmed, that the banning can't be reversed without the user parting with their investment and sending it to Microsoft. If this is the case, the Xbox 360 is presenting one of the worst "failures" of gaming history. Name another console that has had this much problems for so long after an initial launch, with such an apathetic attitude towards fixing the problems that plagued the original launch systems.

I guess we'll see what happens over the next few weeks.

Wow I wonder if they snuck something in that spring update. This sucks for all those hacked systems. But I can only sit back and laugh lol. It pays to ummmmm pay?

How about the game updates that are downloaded ? They, too, could be used to add code to detect back-up media.

Now is it the box thats banned or the Gamertag? Can you get a new 360 and still go on live with your gamertag?

ROBES
05-18-2007, 06:01 PM
to be honest live was not even that worth it for me. I rarely use it actually. I think it bans the xbox not my gamertag.

F34R

so basically you get banned if you are playing a back-up or have a modded fw?

so far, it's really unknown. The main consensus is that they [Microsoft] can detect back-up media, read NOT ORIGINAL games, while signed Xbox Live.

Once there is more knowledge about how they are doing it, when, etc., we'll know a lot more about what we can and can't do, while retaining the Live functionality.

... the ban just suspends the Live functions on the Xbox 360 itself. The Live account is retained.
