...does anyone know of a good place to download Atari 400/800 games? I've looked from mountain to shore and still haven't located a good site from which to leech games.

Have you even _tried_ using a search engine?...

here is what you do go to ebay, the pawn shop or the atari.net auction site and purchase the carts and play them on a console if you want to play them on your compute(who knows the hell why?) simply upload them but never have a copy of the ROM with out the cart.

In many cases, that may be 20+ year old software. Also, the majority of 400/800/8-bit software is on disk, not rom cartridge or image. I lost all my 8-bit software myself, while moving(literally hundreds and hundreds of titles) and I wouldn't mind replacing at least some of what I had without spending an arm and a leg to do so. I have no problem with this type of "piracy," as I owned the titles once, and if I had packed my backups seperatly, I would still have them. Especially when like was stated, this is 10-20+ year old software that the companies have forgotten all about, if they are even still in business. They would not bother with such old stuff. As far as cartridge software and disk software, goes, new or used, you can get most from B&C computervisions, Best Electronics or Video61. I believe Jfpn or maybe even Atari central has links to these stores. If not, just ask on Jaguar interactive at Atarihq.com they'll know the addresses. As far a a website with the software to download for free, I saw one, once, years ago when I didn't need it. they are out there, but you'll have to search.=)

Oh yes...sell them your old crap! go on! squeez the last penny outa them. Specially the little boy. Let´em bleed, cos downloading 10 year old software the manufacturer doesn´t even care about anymore is illegal!
but this,
this is insane.

Like it or not there are still things called copyright laws in this world and even though we may all agree that copying a 20 year old piece of software ultimately hurts no-one as they are not being sold anymore, the fact still remains that SOMEBODY, SOMEWHERE still holds the distribution rights to that software.
