Back in mid-December I picked up a Jaguar with about 9 carts for $100. Since then I've bought maybe another dozen carts (cheap off EBAY for the most part).

You know I never saw a Jaguar before I bought one - but I'm glad I did get one.

It's too bad there isn't a working emulator for this system - the Jaguar is a lot better than many of the mags gave it credit for.

Aliens vs Predator, Missile Command 3D, Tempest 2000 - there are definitely some great games available for it.

I had a 2600 for about 12 years, then I made the mistake of letting one of my friends borrow it for a little while...never saw it again. Fortunately, another friend of mine had a 7800 that he sold to me about a year later with about a dozen games. I also have an 800XL and a 520ST computer.

My systems...

ColecoVision- My favorite, with about 57 or so games (there are currently at least 160!). I ordered the recently-released Steamroller, a game that looks like something you'd expect from the Nintendo Entertainment System!

Atari 2600- What video gamer from the Nameless Generation (1964-1984) doesn't have one of these? I don't know how many games I have for this one, but several of them- including Super Breakout and Space Invaders- I play to this day, usually on the Coleco's 2600 module.

Atari 5200- Not as good as the ColecoVision, but Star Raiders, Berzerk, Defender, Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man, Mario Bros., and Qix are great! Wish I could get my hands on a copy of that Super Pac-Man...

Atari 7800- Did the leadership of Atari ever sing "If I Only Had A Brain?" Why did they abandon the poor 5200 after 1 1/2 years? If they HAD to release this underrated and under-utilised system, why did they wait until Nintendo held 90% of the market? Xevious, Robotron:2084, Dig Dug, the beautiful Joust, Pole Position 2, Tower Toppler, Ms. Pac-Man, Asteroids, Desert Falcon, Food Fight- the 7800 had what it took to match Nintendo, but with the dopes running (ruining?) Atari, this system never had a chance. HEY, TRAMIEL- JUST WHEN IS KLAX, PAC-MAN, AND GAUNTLET COMING OUT FOR THIS SYSTEM? Oh, that's right, "Tengen" made them for Nintendo!

Nintendo Entertainment System- No, wait, don't shun me yet! I bought this last year at a garage sale, got it working, and now have Popeye, Gauntlet, Klax, Donkey Kong 3, the Donkey Kong/Donkey Kong Jr. cartridge (alas, I can't find the 4-screen version of Donkey Kong, and I prefer the 4-screen Donkey Kong Junior for ColecoVision!), Elevator Action, Defender 2 (the 5200 Defender is better!), Q*Bert, and a few others.

Let's face it- if the full abilities of ColecoVision and the Atari 5200 had been used, their games would've been much better, and Nintendo would never have gotten anywhere in America.

Happy Gaming, Everyone!

I've got 2600's coming out of my ears with about 280 carts. This is my favorite collectable format. One 7800 with 25 or so carts. The 5200 has eluded me entirely, I don't know why. I agree, this system never got a fair shake, atleast not in my area. I would pick one up if I had the chance. As for other systems, Colecovision (30 carts), Atari 800, 600xl, 800xl, xe system, 130xe and a pile of accesories. I LOVE 'EM ALL!

"Hangs her head in shame" over the 2600?

Why?

I recently found a 2600 at a thrift shop with all the accessories and 15 games for the low low price of $6.87. The system is in beautiful shape and works great. Now I frequent that same thrift shop almost daily. A few weeks ago I found a Colecovision at that same thrift shop and I already own 2 NES', one in the original box.

When I was a wee little tyke, I had both Alpha Beam with Ernie and Big Bird's Egg Catch. When I dug out my 2600 from my brother's closet a few weeks ago, I couldn't find either of these games.. finally this weekend, I was able to locate Ernie and the big blue gamepad that goes with it. Anyway.. that adds to my 50 or so collection of games, which I'm pretty proud of http://forums.atari.net/ubb/biggrin.gif

Heck,

My 2600, 5200, 7800, Jag/CD, Sega Genesis/CD, Odyssey 2 are all hooked up to the same TV.

My NES and Intellivision are hooked to another TV.

My Colecovision sadly sits in a closet because I can't find any games for it in the wild. I just found the roller controller though. It does work because the Colecovision screen does come up when powered on. Hopefully find some games for it soon. Wish Sean could sell his Colecovision Multicart. I have all of his others plus the O2 multicart from John Dondzila and John's new Vectrex games. Always hooked up.

Play them all. Been Playing the 7800 a lot because I have the High Score cart. Pretty neat cart.

When did the Atari first come out? I'm doing a school project on video game systems but the Atari was before my time. Was Pong on this system when "Video Games" were first created? Or was that some other system I don't know about. Any info on the subject will be uncanningly appreaciated.

Hmm...well,

This is a long a complicated story, But in a nutshell Pong is where it really all begins...(flashback effect)...

Pong was actually created in home form first before the Arcade version of Pong made by Nolan Bushnell came out. It was in fact Magnavox who released pong like games on home consoles. I believe this link will clear up a lot for you and your project.

Enjoy and welcome aboard!!!

Hey, thanks for the link! I now know that my first system ever was a Tele-Games Super PONG, and better yet, it was made by Atari! Man, that takes me back to before I could read, and I could beat my parents too (figured out how to cheat, actually). http://forums.atari.net/ubb/wink.gif

In keeping with the original post, I have an Atari 130XE, and used to have 2600, but I think it got lost in a move somewhere <sniff>. I got it by trading my 8-track player to my older brother (I was what, 6? 7?). Boy, did I get the better end of the deal!
