Fellow Colecovision fans-
Can somebody tell me if Blockade runner, Gyruss, Sewer Sam, and Super Cobra are any good? How are the graphics and gameplay in these games?

To Tabac-
Thanks. I saw a picture of super cobra for CV- the graphics look horrible! Is Blockade Runner that bad? The 5200 has Star Raiders, and I want a good first person space game for CV. Subroc and Star Wars aren't that good- Star Wars is too easy.

Stay away from Blockade Runner (unless you're a collector because it's rare). It's the most awful game I've ever seen for the Coleco. The goal is to maneuver your ships through a never ending asteroid belt and reach the Earth. The graphx are not the best on the system. The controls are AWFUL.
About Sewer Sam: I don't really know the game but from what I've seen, the graphics aren't really good. Don't know about the gameplay though.
Gyruss is a "Galaga all around the screen". Really great game. Funny that the goal is the same as Blockade Runner (reach the Earth) and the 2 games are so far from each other in terms of fun.
I used to love Super Cobra a lot. It's like Cosmic Avenger. When I reached the end though I was really deceived by the ending "sequence" (we can't call that a "sequence"). This game is only 8k. They could have put a decent ending if they would have made it a normal 16k cart.
Hope this is of some help!

Super Cobra doesn't have great graphics but at least, it plays very well. And it is fun.

DOES ANYONE AGREE THAT PITFALL I AND II HAVE REALLY AWFULL GRAPHICS? I HEARD THEY HAVE THE SAME GRAPHICS AS THE ATARI 2600! IS THIS TRUE OF ALL ACTIVISION GAMES FOR COLECO??

SPACE FURY'S NOT BAD BUT IT'S VERY REPETITIVE & THE GRAPHICS COULD BE BETTER BUT GIVE IT A TRY IF YOU LIKE SPACE GAMES.

Bladerunner--
Thanks for the reply, but space fury is not a first-person game, like Star Wars and Dam Busters. Besides, I have Space fury and it's not good- the graphics are not good, and the part-formed aliens do not chase you like they did in the arcade.
Hey Aswald- a long time ago I played a weird game- you were a big square mouth with wheels and you were being chased by flying squid- I am not making this up! Do you know this game, if you know about that odyssey thing you might know this one! It's driving me nuts!

Eric;
I believe the game you are describing was called "Snap Jack;" it was one of those wonderfully weird games of the early 80's which, sadly, have all but vanished. To my knowledge, there are no home versions.
You were a sort of "car"- more like a sort of squarish Pac-Man on wheeled stilts- which had to eat floating dots while avoiding cave ceilings, various obstacles, and pursuing flying squid (Medusa Jacks). At one point you had to leap over water with a large, cute sea creature play-boxing in it. It, like another obscure- and equally bizarre- game called Jump Bug (I played it once in 1982, while in England) was one of the early side scrollers.
It's a crying shame these games do not exist in home format. If decent versions ever became available for ColecoVision, 5200, NES, or 7800 I would buy it the next day!
I'm ordering Dac-Man version 1.3- hope it's a good game!
Happy gaming, everyone!
Sewer Sam is really good I thought. I remember playing it when I was 10 and I am looking to buy it now. "Sam" talks in the game, it's a really cool looking game. This is Colecovision and it is year 2000, if you want good graphics get a modern system. Just enjoy the Colecovision for what it is.

Eric;
You're certainly right about the lack of good first-person shoot 'em ups for ColecoVision; I plan on buying Blockade Runner soon, and will let you know what I think of it- it's a bit of a gamble, though, because if Tabac is right then it'll be a waste of $30.00.
Hopefully, since Intellivision Burgertime is available for ColecoVision, someone will make the splendid B-17 Bomber available, too- Dam Busters is somewhat flawed; it seems to have been rushed out. I suspect that happened to a number of games due to the Great Video Game Crash of 1984. Believe me, it was pure chaos during that time!
There are, however, two good first-person games available, although they allow only two-dimensional movement: The Dukes of Hazzard and Escape From the Mindmaster. Dukes is a surprisingly advanced driving game, and Mindmaster was the first true first-person maze game.
The Dukes of Hazzard requires the steering module, but it can also be played with the roller controller, albeit clumsily.
If B-17 Bomber ever comes out, rejoice, because that game is GREAT!!
