2.8 should be put on your PSP using the following directory:
ROOT>PSP>GAME>UPDATE>EBOOT.PBP
If any folders are missing then create them.
ROOT refers to the root of the memory stick, i.e when you click on the drive icon in My Computer, then that is the root. In there, should be the folder PSP, and then so on.
ROOT confuses a lot of people.
root is equivalent to the drive letter. In the example Nitrus gave, it'd be translated into this:
X:/PSP/GAME/UPDATE/EBOOT.PBP (where X: is replaced by your PSP drive letter).
BTW, what exactly are you trying to accomplish ? I know you stated, upgrade to 2.71 so that you can downgrade. Are you now going to 2.80 to downgrade to 1.50 ?

He wanted to downgrade 2.71 to 1.50, but the link on this site only supported 2.80 to 1.50 and 3.03 to 1.50.
So hes upgrading to 2.80 and then downgrading to 1.50 using the guide.
Well, there is a link to the 2.71 downgrade guide at the bottom of the link that TBGixxer posted.
This is the link for the 2.71 guide:
http://www.talkvideogames.com/showthread.php?t=32569
The problem with the downgrader for 2.71, is it required the 2.71 user to obtain certain files from a 1.50 PSP. I'm pretty sure there was another way to do it, but this was the safest way to ensure it was done properly.
In short, it's probably a lot safer, and easier, to use the 2.80 downgrader anyways, but we DO have a guide for a 2.71 downgrader.

You went through all that to tell me that we have a 2.71 guide, but in the end its better to do what he IS doing anyway.
I imagine he just saw the first one available to him.
BOT, hows it going for you man? Did you manage to downgrade ok?

I'm doing a friends PSP tonight. It'll be my 3rd so far! This will kind of be a refresher for me so I'll be able to answer any other questions you have tomorrow.

Of course you can always ask F34R (he put the lovely guide together!) but just wanted to let you know that I just successfully downgraded my 3rd psp so I can give you additional help while it's still fresh in my mind. This one was a 2.6 w/ ta-086 motherboard. Took about 20 minutes. PM me if needed.
