Just how bad is the 360 for reliability? You'd think MS would do something about it.

What amazes me, is that it seems like the 3 red lights thing is so well integrated because they KNEW it was gonna break.

Some people are still on their launch 360's. I guess it's all who you talk to. People are more likely to post on the Internet when something isn't work right, as opposed to posting when it is working right. Everyone I know personally is still on their first 360. Four launch boxes, two Elites, ten or so Premiums bought within the last year. All of them have been working fine. I think, and this is just an opinion based on speculation, that if the problem were as widespread as the Internet makes it to be, Microsoft would have recalled the defective consoles.

How long did it take Sony to fix the defective PS2 ?

The only place where i've heard people complain about broken 360's is on the internet. In real life i've never heard of a 360 failing.I have 4 friends with launch systems and they still work fine to this day.

The rings serve more than one purpose. For one, the rings show which controllers are assigned to which player. i.e. player 1, 2, etc. Another thing to consider is that the rings are a part of the error codes that just about EVERY electronic device has. Computers have been using POST beep codes before dirt was discovered. Are you implying that manufacturers KNEW computers would fail so they implemented a beep code system to help figure out where the problem was ?

I'm not saying that there isn't a problem with some consoles. I just don't think it's as widespread as it has been made out to be. There is an article about a commissioner in the Netherlands stating they have received 1,000 complaints about the 360 scratching discs there. However, the article doesn't list anything about these people individually. Did they move the console while it was on ? Was the disc already dirty, with grit, or another foreign object on the disc when it was inserted ? Let's assume that the 360 is completely responsible for 1,000 people having a disc scratched in the Netherlands. How many systems have been sold there ? What's the percentage of systems sold compared to system complaints ?

The Internet is a breeding ground for trolling fanboy posts. It's amazing what the Internet allows people to post, without any way of verifying what is true, and what isn't. What is inflammatory, and what isn't.

Great points F34R and thats exactly right. Like that happens with lots of things, you only ever hear about all the bad things for Xbox, but think of all the consoles sold and ones without problems. Like thbink of it like this, a plane crashes once in a while (not often really) but those are the only ones you hear about, you dont hear about the thousands of ones that dont crash. So I am totally with F34R saying that the internet is sometimes just over inflating the 360's problems, I for one, think its a great system

For what its worth I would never keep my Xbox 360 stock. I dont think it has the proper cooling at stock. I have had mine now for over a year and its been flawless.

As soon as I find an adapter for the whisper, I'll install one. The Elite doesn't have a molex connector for the fan anymore. It's been changed to a 3pin header like most fans.

I know 3 people with 360's who have had problems.
1 person is on his THIRD.
1 person got the 3 red lights and never bothered getting it repaired.
The ohter one's 360 freezes all the time.

360 hardware is just POS and yet MS are still making them badly as well. I know people with consoles that are made in 07 that have still failed. Its awful. Part of the problem is thier return poilicy sure they will give you a new 360 if its in warranty but gues what? Yes thats right then one they just sent you is probably just a refurb so that will again break and then the circle contuines.

Seriously most people that say they have 3 or 4 are getting them replaced my MS directly

More like you broke it lol. Anybody that says the 360 hardware is a POS doesnt know anything about computer hardware. The 360 is a great console with one minor flaw. Every single 360 that I have modded is still working and most likely always will.

lol ehhh...

The only thing in the 360 that is P.O.S worthy is the cooling system, those fans do nothing.. and that causes a lot of the problems...

the box i got has been through some drop testing damage thanks to my ex girlfriend, but other than the fans causing it to freeze "rarely" it works fine. my thumbs go up to this one

Im on my first and it will be year old at the end of july. i also bought the bestbuy warranty when i purchased it, this was before microsoft extended their warranty of course. So if it breaks it goes back and i get a new one.
