Sony finally issued a $100 price cut on the 60gb PS3 for a retail value of $499.99. Here's the catch though, they now have an 80gb console with a free copy of Motorstorm slated for an August release at $599.99. Maybe with the new 90nm technology? I hope so. Motorstorm isn't that appealing to me and $100 for just an extra 20gb isn't that much of a bargain but I'll still be more likely to drop $600 plus tax on the new 80gb console. I hope the existing blu-ray movie promo will still be in effect by that time. That's right, it ends September 30th. This is a great deal. Now I'm thinking if this was Sony's sneaky little plan after all. Offer 5 free BD discs with any qualifying bd player including the PS3, flood the market with consoles, lower the price on the 60gb just in time for E3 and make way for a new console. This can definitely create a little stir in the market place. I'm in.

Not a very good move on Sonys end. M$ brings out a 120gb hdd and Sony answers with an 80gb hdd? Now I need to by a 250gb hdd for my PS3.

Yes but dont forget the 80gb was already out in the Korean market. But its really no difference becasue its a retail game and only 20gb. to me thats not even worth the extra $100. $60 for Motorstorm which i can get cheaper and then $40 for an extra 20gb. No Thanks, ill jsut buy a new hard drive when it comes time.
Guess its a good time i bought mine, cuz now i can go back and get my $100 and still get 5 free blu-ray movies. FTW

Maybe I will sell mine and buy the 80gb then sell Motorstorm and all 5 movies for $150.
I'm getting another one then, this settles that. :)

Umm, sorry for the nooby question, but why do you need a big harddrive on PS3. Is there a marketplace where you can download movies and stuff like on 360? And for downloading those movies{if there are some} is that only for US like on 360?
Thanks for any help, only played a 360 once, and there was no internet, so I am a PS3 noob.
You can store media on the PS3. Movies, music, everything.

You can also install certain games, for improved performance which takes up a few gigs of storage depending on the game.

Umm, sorry for the nooby question, but why do you need a big harddrive on PS3. Is there a marketplace where you can download movies and stuff like on 360? And for downloading those movies{if there are some} is that only for US like on 360?
Thanks for any help, only played a 360 once, and there was no internet, so I am a PS3 noob.
Don't forget that Sony's online marketplace is getting a complete overhaul and HOME will be out soon.

Its not out yet.. except the BETA but very few people got into that.

I changed my mind. I dont want the 80gb. They took the emotion chip out of it.

Just buy a bigger hard drive and install it in your PS3.
I have a 100Gb HDD :)
Its outlined in the manual how to install it, so Sony WANT you to upgrade.

Sony actually encourages this? You're right. If I can swap a hd on my own then that sounds like the better option.

there is no emotion chip in any PAL PS3 consoles i think it means less PS2 games are compatiable

Yeah thats true, but most of the popular games work fine. Tbh, I dont see the point of playing PS2 games on my PS3.

Yep, look at the manual. Step by step instructions on how to remove the HDD and replace it with a new one.
Alternatively, use a USB external HDD. They work fine too.

Its just like the xbox 360, it will be emulator based so basically a crapshoot. Thats a no go for me i have a 75+ game PS2 Library. Hence why i bought it when i did. Going tonight to get my extra $100 back. I have no qualms about swapping in my own harddrive when the time comes.

Okay, so I guess My second PS3 will be same as my first... Only cheaper.

Went and got my $107 back today. Man i am glad i impulse bought when i did, and i there wasn't even rumors of a price cut then. 5 free movies is an added bonus as well. Too bad i didn't get the free controller that CC is offering though. But i don't feel to bad especially with the new rumored rumble controllers.

no God of War will work, only some not so popular PS2 games wont work.

I want a PS3 just so I can play Motorstorm and MLB the show. I used to love that game on PS2 so I can only imagine its alot better on Ps3

Yea MLB the Show is amazing, i love it, but when i rented it when ti first came out the online never worked, so hopefully they fixed it by now.
