Well recently my pc has been kinda weird, like before when it was new, it would switch between programs seamlessly and i could really multi-task, but now, just switchhing between VLC player and My Documents lags for about 2 seconds and when i press start, it lags maybe like half a second, its just mot as fast as t used to be. I dont like it, i already ran like AVG free a dozen times, and Ad Ware, i even tried defragmenitng it. So whats up with my pc guys?

You installed many apps on it, so it does that. You probably also have many unnecessary processes running in the background too.
It helps to have more RAM.
EDIT: Defragging helps too.

yeah, the thing is though, i dont know which processes i need or not, and how to get rid of them permanently cause some of the processes comebak even after i end it.

Disc Cleanup or a System Mechanic really deletes junk files...A faster prrocessor should be better but I know you don't want to spend $500.

How much Hard Drive space are you using? Your PC runs slower if you're using more than 70% of your Windows partition.
Anyway...
Press Ctrl-Alt-Del
Go to Processes
Click on Username
You can stop everything other than explorer.exe and taskmg.exe
This will close all other programs though, such as aim, so you can re-run the ones you want. DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK. I'M NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU **** IT UP.

where do i get those programs?

It's doing that because...IT IS A BOMB!
Ok, not really. One thing I've noticed is that when you get a new computer that seems nice and quick, you get used to the speed after a while. So while it's still trucking at the same pace it was before, your subconscious is telling you otherwise.
That, and DEFRAG TIME, woot!

I'll post a pic later. Oh yeah, when I said you can exit all applications other than explorar.exe and taskmgr.exe, I mean all the others under your username.
DONT CANCEL SYSTEM OR NETWORK TASKS!

DONT CANCEL SYSTEM OR NETWORK TASKS!
I don't think it will allow you to cancel those anyway.

Well, I just attempted it on this computer and it gives me the whole "Access is Denied" response.
I guess my computer is just more 1337 at protecting itself.

No, you've probably just got spyware that locks you out of ending processes Havok, I get that sometimes.
That, or you've locked youself out of it, or your mommy has :P
1337, you should download and run "Spybot: Search and Destroy"
You probably have spyware, and trojans and stuff.
Also, if you have room, I'd move about 1500 MB into a new partition, then set that as your swap file, and disable the one on your windows partition.

Oh dear, I was sure my computer was clean. But also, as far as I know, it's always been like that.
Maybe my mommy did it. LOL!
This is where a "Dude, that's not funny. My mom's dead" joke would work well.

My mother is not dead...yet. (The Stewie part of me taking over there.
Anyway, get partition commander and make a swap drive like shadow said. It didn't really help me, but it may help you out a little. Spybot rocks, and i'd give it a try...
Has someone been looking at naughties?

Has someone been looking at naughties?
Aaahaha.
Or it could be from downloading his favorite N'Sync songs from Limewire.
I'm totally joking btw, 1337.

Dude, a RAM Optimizer? Don't you know that if you use a RAM optimizer with less than 1.5 GB or RAM, the Optimizer will generally use as much CPU/RAM, if not more, Than what you're trying to free?
RAM Optimizers are BS. Just end uneeded processes. The only things that should be running at startup, are AV/ Firewall softwares.
Type in MSCONFIG into "Run" in the start menu and navigate to the "Startup" tab. Uncheck all the options but the ones for AV/ Firewall. If you don't know what it is, disable it. Even if you need it, you can always turn it back on.
Also, go check your services tab. Click on "Manufacturer" to sort the list, and disable any services that aren't manufactured by Microsoft, Veritas, or your AV/ Firewall company.
Restart the comp, check the box, click OK, and you should have the least amount of processes possible running.

You should watch what you uncheck in the startup menu as you can really f**k up your pc and make it unstable if you don't know what you are doing. I would suggest getting more RAM or system cleaning tools, also cleaning up the registary would help as the more things that are installed and uninstalled, it leaves behind an entery in the registary making Windows search through dead-ends and stuff thats not there anymore to get to the stuff that you need. Oh and whatever you do, do not use freebie anti virus apps or whatever as they wont find everything and it has been proven that shareware ones do far better than the freebie ones.

Not true, the start up menu can cause no harm, and neither can the services, if you don't touch any of the miscrosoft services.
When you install XP, the startup menu is clear, so how can anything there be bad to uncheck if it was added AFTER initial installation?

You just have to know what processes to turn off, also what Services to disable. My PC is smooth as hell and look at all the processes I have running.
Your PC will run like a champ if you know what you're doing and know how to manage your rail voltages too.
Formatting once a year is good too. I'm do for one soon.

Doesn't hurt to have 1.5 GB of RAM, either, does it Hanzo?
