Price drop because of Blu-Ray?

It seems Sony has slashed their Blu-Ray player price to $499 just like Toshiba has with their HD DVD players. Here's an article related how the price drop may effect the PS3 pricing.

I still dont have a large HD set (22 inch LCD for the bedroom only) so I wont be buying a HD DVD player like Blue Ray or HDDVD, but this is good to know. I am kind of hoping HDDVD's come out on top. 299 for a Toshiba HD DVD player is really good! If I a PS3 it wont be for the Blue ray thats for sure! I think they are seeing the prices dropping on HDDVD and they know they need to do the same to compete.
