So I'm thinking about buying a 360 since my Dad is looking into an HDTV, and was wondering what to look for.
Is there a specific model I should look at? I'll be getting a Premium system, so I dunno if there were different models or whatever, like the PSP.
And what's with the DVD drive? What's the difference between them and how can I tell which drive my 360 will come with?

All the xbox 360s being made now are top notch. Also get the 2 Year Service Contract.
Here are things to avoid though:
1. Nyko Cooler - not necessary.
2. Changing out your stock exhaust fans - not necessary.

Do they make it run any quieter?

The fans will always be loud, but you will not be hearing them once you have the volume up. ;)

There is a core and premium. You need the premium. The core is a waste of money.
If you buy it from Best Buy or a store, you will get the newest drive which doesn't make a different maybe if you listen closeley it is more quieter.
As Hanzo said, no Nyko Intercooler, no replacing fans. They are trying to get your money!

Are u serious? If u replace ur fans with the led whispers they are a lil bit quiter and help cooling

The 360 is just as loud, if not louder than the original xbox, but you don't hear it while playing, there is no need for an intercooler or new fans really.

You only need extra fans if you're a freaked out baby about it overheating. Unless you're a modder...that's different.
Wait until January, new chipset is coming out. (65mm)

Would that really make any difference though? You still get to play the same games, and regardless of the reliability if he got the warranty it wouldn't matter.

I'm not easily fooled by gimmicks, it may work on simple-minded people though. :)

What I meant by the DVD drive, was is there a way to tell which one is included by looking at the box? And what are the differences for *cough*modding*cough*

Ok then, I'm maybe gonna mod it, but I'll leave it for a while first.
So I don't have to worry about anything? I can just go and pick up any old 360 from the shelf?

Yeah, I like the idea of doing some cosmetic mods though, LEDs, windows, and such.

I'd like that too but I suck. If you can wait a few weeks after X-Mas, get the 65mm chip.

1. Consumes less power, saves you money.
2. Reduces overheating.
Also remember, if you plan on modding it, forget about the service contract. You'll be paying money for nothing. Once you crack open the system, the warranty and any service contracts are void.
