BioWare and LucasArts announced on Saturday that Star Wars: The Old Republic, the highly anticipated story-driven MMO for PC, will be released on December 20, 2011 in North America and on December 22, 2011 in Europe. BioWare co-founders Dr. Ray Muzyka and Dr. Greg Zeschuk revealed the long-awaited launch date to those in attendance at the 2011 Eurogamer Expo in London.

The Old Republic went up for pre-order (http://www.eucantina.net/archives/10954) on July 21, but virtually nothing was known about pricing or availability at that time. Thankfully, Muzyka and Zeschuk also took the opportunity to publicly unveil the MMO's monthly subscription fee. New copies of the game will come with a 30-day subscription, but those that want to play more will have to pony up for one of three subscriptions.

* 1 Month Subscription: $14.99 (£8.99/€12.99)
* 3 Month Subscription: $13.99 per month (one-time charge of $41.97/£25.17/€35.97)
* 6 Month Subscription: $12.99 per month (one-time charge of $77.94/£46.14/€65.94)

Those who pre-order the game will have the opportunity to start playing ahead of the official launch. Details on exactly how this will work, as well as how early it will start, are still under wraps.

Star Wars: The Old Republic is a massive game, and not just in the MMO sense. The game features two classic factions, eight iconic character classes, and more than 17 planets. Best of all, every character is fully voiced. The Old Republic combines the best aspects of RPGs and MMOs to create a cinematic gameplay experience that can be enjoyed solo or in the company of friends and the world at large. BioWare has billed it as not just the sequel to the critically acclaimed Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR) and KOTOR 2, but KOTOR 3-12.
