Just wondering, I know the future of hd dvd doesn't look good, but at bestbuy its only 50$. Will there ever be a time that Hd-dvds wont be available? Is it sometime soon? I can get the Hd dvd player for about 15 or 20 or so because I have a gift card, is it worth it or save the money for R6V: 2?[/align]

If you buy it you are limited to any titles that are currently available, it's unlikely anymore HD-DVDs will be released now that Toshiba has thrown in the towel.

I dont think it would totally die because if they start selling hd dvd burners for $50 and the player is $50. It does not seem so bad.

I mean for 20$ its the cheapest hd dvd player around. I think I might got it. I guess I can always sell it, and prob make a lil bit of money.

If you get a hd-dvd burner too then its worth it. Otherwise i wouldnt bother.

I have not decided yet, how much do Hd dvd burners coast? I mean I can prob get the hd add on for close to 20$. Then the 5 free movies it comes with. Plus I think I can use it as up converting dvd player via hdmi right?

No, it's a dead format. The quality sucks compared to the A2/3, A30...
Once your Xbox 360 breaks, you're done.

that would be a pretty bad idea, the HD-DVD add-on for 360 is bad in quality compared to other HD-DVD players, if you want an HD-dvd player i would get anything but the 360 add-on

Bad quality eh? You must've owned one to know this. Please explain to me the issues you had with it.

I just bought one last night, and its already broke!! I'm taking it back to bestbuy tomorrow....

Got through about an hour and a half of the Bourne Ultimatum and it decided to take a dump/. Picture looked great, and HD-DVD's will become dirt cheap so I think it's worth the $50. Just don't buy a broken one like I did.

That was my logic. I can probally get it for 15$ + tax and then movies are and will continue to be cheap. I know its a dieing format, but microsoft wont be coming out with a BR player anytime soon. I don't feel for the amount of time I watch movies the expensive blue ray players are worth it and I will never have a ps3 in my house =].

Would the picture be significantly better than the Up-Converting DVD player I use now...? For this price, this seems like a win win situation. I might have to pick one up...you sure it comes with 5 free movies?

Yes until march something. I mean I can get it for extremely cheap and everything..

Rage I was willing to spend the extra money on a dieing format. I mean no more movies will ever be released or anything like that, but I am pretty sure it can be used as an up converting player via HDMI.

For a dying format? I might pick this up to calibrate my TV with one of those 40$ calibration HD-DVDs.
