I recently hooked up my internet in my apartment finally, and I have the cable going into the modem. Then out of the modem its going into a router, whichmy my computer, and my xbox are hooked up.
Since everything is on the same network, can I make videos from my computer play on my 360, or do I need to hook up a wifi router?

You can do it via ethernet, it's preferred for hd videos. You have xp or vista?

I have Vista, but I am putting XP back on tonight.. unless I shouldn't? Do I need media center?
What program should I use to stream movies?

I have Vista so didn't need to install any extra stuff. If you're switching to xp then you can stream using windows media player 11. Not sure what program to use for converting and streaming but check out the tversity thread.

There are ways you can "upgrade" to Home Premium, ask the_ironist.
I know how to do it in H.P. not H.B.
I use Xp, and streaming is as easy as going to the Tools section in windows media, and enable the sharing for a device found on the network, i.e. your 360. When you go to the media section in the dash, you'll click on video, and choose where to look... either the HDD, or a networked media server. make sure your movies are in the My Video folder, located in My Documents. I stream HD WMV files via ethernet to the 360.

You can stream using windows media player 11. It's free if you don't already have it. Then do what F34R said.
