Developer/Publisher: Capcom
Released: November 13 (NA)
Genre: Rail Shooter
Rating: M (ESRB)
Graphics:6.5
The graphics in Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles were a disappointment to say the least. Some of the character animations look like they were taken right out of Resident Evil 4. Although it's worse, When firing an automatic weapon at the same enemy it just shakes no matter where you're hitting it. Unlike in RE4 where you would continually shoot the same enemy in different spots and it would move accordingly. Also the character models all genuinely look the same and are used over and over again. The graphics are pixely and jaggy sometimes and frame rate loss is a bit of an issue at times when there are many zombies on screen and you are firing rapidly at them. There are some good points to the graphics I think that make the game more horrific that are nice additions. The way blood pours down the screen when you get hit is nice, although nothing we haven't seen before. The lightning in the mansion that lights up rooms is also pretty nice looking. Overall the graphics are pretty much what you expect from the Wii and deserve nothing higher than a 7.
Sound:7.5
The sound in Umbrella Chronicles really adds to the horror aspect the series is based around. The crackling of the lightning, grunts of the zombies, Crisp gun sounds and voice acting are all superb. Some of the music in the game takes away from the experience just a little. I can't stand some of the cinematics and the one liners some of the characters say. Wesker sounds like a badass though, I like his scenes. The sound isn't great, there isn't really anything spectacular about it which is why I only gave it a 7.5.
Gameplay:7
hmm what can I say about the gameplay? It's classic rail-shooter like you would find in your local arcade. There isn't really much of a selection of weapons that are worth using. You can upgrade your weapons with star points you get for completing the various missions. Depending on how well you did a mission you will get a letter rank from D-S, S being the best. There are a bunch of different documents to find by breaking stuff and different paths you can choose when prompted with an A and enter on screen. Which gives you many hours of gameplay depending on if you want to increase your ranks, find all the different documents and take all the different paths. There are critical hit spots that can take out enemies in one shot but they are so tiny they are almost impossible to hit. With a little practice though you can be shooting these spots constantly with the wii-mote if you play wii shooters a lot. (basically re4 and metroid over and over again like me.:whee:)
Fun:3/8
I have two scores up there because I had fun playing this game but I know many people won't and here is why. I like the Resident Evil series. If you don't like Resident Evil or rail-shooters don't bother getting this game, you won't like it. However if you like Resident Evil and are a fan of the series then grab it. It greatly adds to the whole story throughout the series. Also since shooters are limited on the Wii you may want to pick it up until you get that 360 you desperately want  basically if you like Resident Evil you will like this game. If you don't like RE then you won't like it.
Overall:4/8
Overall this game has two scores, one for non-RE fans one for RE fans. Like I said before if you like RE then pick up this game if you don't, don't simple as that.
