Released: Nov. 6/07
Genre: Party Sports
Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games is the very first official game to contain Mario (from Nintendo) and Sonic (from Sega) and characters from both franchises. It is also the first game of the 2008 summer Olympic Games to be released.
Mario and Sonic @ the Olympic Games contains 16 Characters from Sega and Nintendo all with their own stats and abilities. Mii's may also be used. The stats are divided into; Overall, Skill, Power and Speed.
There are 20 Official Olympic Games to compete in ranging from archery to fencing all of wich are playable in the circuit and tournament modes. Circuit mode is where players compete for the highest score possible. There are also going to unlockable 'Dream Events' wich consist of using the actual characters abilities. The areas these games occur may look familiar to you.
The graphics of the game are decent although sometimes it runs a slower frame-rate than usual and the crowd can get a bit choppy. There is also very little cinematics to look forward to and very few effects are used.
The gameplay is stunning and extremely fun. It uses the Wii-Remote to its full capabilities and was more than I expected. Mission mode and dream events are what make this game as good as it is. Although gameplay can get a tad bit repetative it is still fun for hours and hours especially with a few competitive friends. The online leaderboard adds to the greatness of the game although you cannot actually compete against others online. You will quickly find yourself striving to beat those insane scores over the internet.
Overall I love this game and probably will always play it from time to time just like a mario-party game. I give this game a 9 out of 10. ;). Mario and Sonic will forsure be one of the funnest sports related games out there.
