Easily one of the most anticipated games this winter, Assassin's Creed doesn't fail to awe and amaze. This game is one that I'll remember for a long time. Assassin's Creed is Prince of Persia meets Tenchu. It's a game about keeping stealth, hiding in plain site, and surviving. By surviving, I mean being able to fend off a dozen armed guards, run away, and hide. It's a very unique game, but I won't get into it too much, don't want to spoil the story for you.
On to the main aspects of the game.
Graphics:
This game delivers superb graphics. The shadows look real, the characters clothes move with him, blow in the wind, and follow the laws of physics almost perfectly. The blood in the game is well coded, and delivers fairly realistic spurts and stains on characters, though sometimes a bit more than should seems to come out of your foes. The environment is astounding. The water looks like water, the grass looks like grass, hell, even the hay looks like hay. This game delivers the cutting edge of rendering techniques, and doesn't disappoint in the graphics area.
10/10
Sound:
The game itself has great sound. The atmosphere and such makes it seem real. But this is where most of my qualms are as well. The voice acting is a little off in places, leaving the character's mouth moving a little longer than the words. Also, sounds like swords clashing, and idle conversation is very repetitive. It almost gets annoying when you're not completely immersed in one of your character's tasks. All in all, however, when truly playing the game, you don't notice it enough to bother you. The sounds themselves are very crisp and seem to have no glitches.
9/10
Gameplay:
Personally, I find the game very fun. The assassinations are realistically played out, with guards chasing you and tracking you around the city afterwards until you can "lose" them. The HUD is very useful in this aspect, as it helps you to hide, and make your way back into an unseen status. I don't find the gameplay repetitive at all, and I will definitely play though the story a few more times just for the gameplay alone.
9.5/10
Value:
This game is worth the money, for sure. It's not a short game, as far as these types go. It took me a while to complete, even playing it around 18h/day (Called in "sick" to work twice...). Also, I feel it has a fun factor that makes it replayable, even after you know the whole story and there are no surprises left. Only problem with replaying, is the cutscenes are locked in, and cannot be bypassed. This was a mistake on Ubisoft's part for sure.
9.5/10
Overall:
I give this a 9.5/10. Good game over all, just a few things that could have been done better. Definitely makes it my #1 fave for the PS3, so far.
