So, I'm addicted.
I've played the demo about fifteen times, and just ended an eight hour session of the best extreme sports game I've ever played.
Now on to the review.
Graphics:
Awesome graphics. I mean, they're not a whole lot greater than the 360's, but in high def, I notice that the PS3 looks a bit more realistically rendered, and the colours are more vibrant. This is NOT to say that the 360 version looks bad. They both look great, but obviously due to technology, this version looks slightly better. Only issue is with the adrenaline time. The period of yellowness after you do something record worthy. Coming out of this "high", I've had it glitch twice. Nothing huge, but it did stutter.
Sound:
The music is mediocre. I barely even noticed it half the time. That's one of my only complaints. They need the musical "oomph" that the Tony Hawk series has. We need some Rise Against and Distillers to skate our hearts out to.
Sound effects, however are good. Sound crisper and more real than T.H.'s. At least they got something right here.
Gameplay:
The controls are hard. There's no getting around this. A hardflip is a hard trick to perform in real life, and almost as hard to perform in game. The actual "Flick it" style of skating however is unique, and very fun to play with. This will take some time getting used to, especially manuals. You will throw your controller, but you will also pick it back up every time. This game is like crack for skateboarders. I'm jones'n right now righting this.
Value:
Well, it depends on how much you like skateboarding in a nearly endless virtual world with millions of trick combonations. For me? Tons of replay value. For you? Who knows.
Overall:
If you have played Tony Hawk and liked it, or if you've ever skateboarded and liked that, go spend the money on this. Now. This is a must have for any skateboard fan with a PS3.
9/10 - Lost 1 point for mediocre music and hard controls, gained 9 for addictive gameplay, realistic tricks, endless replay value, and awesome graphics.
