I've got to say, this game was definitely worth the wait. The action is straight from the beginning and calm parts are very few. You start off being rescued from prison to help fight off the invading Locust horde. Right off the bat the action is non stop. But you better not get too immersed in the action, or else you're getting your head blown off. This game is not all about fighting, you also need to take cover and strategically plan your next moves, without this you will never beat the campaign. The campaign itself is fairly short and lackluster, it could have used some spicing up and a little more insight into the game, but it still manages to be great. Though once beating the campaign, the game still manages to deliver. The online capabilities, like co-op through live is great! You can go through the campaign with a friend, but you get the whole screen! This co-op is not at all like most other co-op games. This game doesn't split the main character into two, you play as one of the other four people helping the main character, Marcus. This game is all about cooperation, you need everybody on your team, without them the game would never be beaten.
One of the other great live features is the online play. There is ranked and unranked battles, the unranked are my personal favorite because you can play as long as you want. When you play online you play as either the Locust or COG team, and you fight until the last team or team member is left standing. You play for a set number of wins, they are called rounds in the game, and whoever reaches those number of rounds first is the winning team. In ranked games from what I have experienced, the host most commonly chooses 10 rounds because, in ranked you only play one game. Now, if you're playing unranked, you can play as long as you want, not just one game. It's best when the host chooses map cycle, because if you have a great team then you can just continue to kick ass across every map. But what the ranked games have above the unranked is that you can only get the online achievements in those games.
Another great aspect of the online portion of the game is the reduction of the lag. If you start to experience a spurt of lag then you will have a screen pop up in front of you asking you whether you want to wait until the spike is gone just leave without waiting, that is a great aspect that this game has over most other live games.
Now, for the only real thing I see wrong with this game. Don't get me wrong, the voice acting is great, but I think they were trying to hard to get the tough solider voice, and got more of a raspy voice of a person who has been chain smoking for 20 years. Epic Games definitely stands up to their name with this game.
So the rundown:
Graphics: 5/5 - c'mon, the graphics are amazing, the best I've seen on the 360 to date, and it's even better that the online play doesn't have crapped down graphics like some games.
Sound: 4/5 - The voice acting is amazing, but the actual voices...aren't. P.S. did you know the same person that does the voice for Bender from Futurama does Marcus' voice?
Replay Value: 5/5 - The lackluster campaign is completely compensated for with the online play
Value: 5/5 - $60 is a deal, $70 is a deal for collectors (which I bought), hell, this game would be worth $100 for how good I think it is.
