I've been all over the net on tons of boards...I've read the post and the biggest concensous I get is that 90% of all posters are Sony fanboys....This is something you've heard me say before....But it's true, and true for alot of sites...Take a look at IGN, Gamestop and even EBGames....I.E. EBGames seems to like to post customers reviews bashing the DS. Yet if you take a look at the PSP reviews, I think I see maybe 2 reviews that bashed the PSP. All of the DS games I read reviews on had multiple DS bash posts. Only a few PSP games had a mediocre PSP bash post. This is something you can see for yourself by going to www.ebgames.com and selecting the DS section and selecting the system or games and reading customer reviews. Plus, take a look at the site menu, the PS shows up first, then Nintendo.

I'm not the only one thinking that Sony is setting the world against Nintendo.

Seriously, these people have no intention to really review any game with true objectivity. They have sunk to the lowest denominator of credibility. IGN’s attempts to undermine Nintendo DS as non-innovative and to be portrayed as a gimmick is simply because the authors who deal with the Nintendo section are not here to provide DS/GC/GBA fans with piece of Nintendo love, but to tame the Nintendo fan core to conformity. They want Nintendo to be just like Sony, MS and as Sega in the past… They dislike Nintendo’s approach in gaming because it doesn’t feel as “cool” as the others; it’s not as fashionable as the rest. What I mean fashionable is all the mainstream crap you get right now, which I call the “Junk food” of the gaming industry.

They favor smut, gore and profanity, because these things sell and most people will get duped into loving crap like this, and since the majority favors it, why should IGN deny this and favor the minority? Seriously, how many junk food restaurants is their in North America? Now ask yourself how many healthy restaurants there are….

To get my drift, here is a nice satirical article on the average gamer in which IGN seems to love to cater:

http://gc.advancedmn.com/article.php?artid=4035

Every time I enter IGN, all I see is a skank female model/actor in the front page, a brutish gore game with something to do with aliens/zombies or a smut ridden game and let’s not forget the advertisement banners from big mainstream publishers like EA, big non gaming companies like Toyota. Frankly, can IGN make money off of Nintendo fans? Obviously not since most of these banners are oriented to average gaming adults. I don’t think any Nintendo fan is going to click on a Dodge Ram advertisement, yes? But pretty sure maybe an XBOX/PS2 fan would… It’s like IGN is indirectly saying to Nintendo: “Hey we don’t make much money off of you, so you better change your targeted audience”. As for the Nintendo fans, the recent mail responses and deliberate editorials of DS bashing by IGN staff is evident enough that they don’t give a damn about them even if they become upset from what they rant against Nintendo. God knows if they aren’t already getting a few bucks directly from Sony and other big companies, since you will barely ever see them bashing Sony products. Every opportunity they had, they were able to squeeze PSP in GC/DS section of IGN. Hmm, why would IGN Nintendo staff do that?

Obviously people who are reading stuff about Nintendo in DS/GC section already have made up their decision on which console they prefer. So why would any reasonable author always try to bash Nintendo yet refer to it’s competitor as being superior? Last time I checked in any N-gage article that IGN has done, I never saw them comparing it with Nintendo hardware and claiming to be superior…

Here is a good example of IGN excellence in reviews. No sane person in their right mind who is a true gamer would give a score as high as this unless you work at IGN: http://ps2.ign.com/objects/640/6400...l?ui=gamefinder

No matter, good thing we already have a credible magazine that is fortunate enough to still be disciplined and to the hardcore in their scoring, Famitsu. Unfortunetly it's not in english, but does it really matter? Most IGN members here don't really read reviews and only care about the scores.

Not to mention, have you read the N-gage reviews and launch tidbits by IGN? Not one bit of criticism on this handheld by IGN staff even though Nokia as of recently has stopped production, fired the entire staff and shut down the entire project.

Hell not only they didn't say anything negative on the N-gage, they even defended from criticism in some cases:

“However, the knock that Nokia received at E3 is kinda unfair. After all, wasn't there some real spark behind the unit from the gaming press last year, when Nokia rounded a bunch of writers up and shipped them to Europe for an exclusive test run? Where did all that goodwill go? Or is it another case of people loving to rip down something they've previously built up?”
http://ngage.ign.com/articles/429/429653p1.html

I see, Nokia is good, but Nintendo DS bad. Yes, let’s not forget matt’s ingenius rebuttal that DS doesn’t have original games… Odd that he forgot to mention that bulk of the Nintendo DS games will be coming on March, exact same time when PSP will launch in North America. In addition, I always love when people compare DS launch games vs PSP launch games here in North America when PSP isn’t even out. It’s like people like IGN want to say that: “hey we are ungrateful that DS was able to launch so soon. WE WANT DELAYS DAMN IT!” /end of rant

Now for the good stuff. Since I am such a nice guy, I will help IGN to be less biased in their articles. Here are some lessons...

1. Don’t bother mentioning lack of DS games while also referring to the "awesomeness" of PSP even though it doesn’t even exist in North America yet.

2. You don’t need to advertise for Sony how PSP looks so sexy. In reality it’s not so cool looking after usage: http://image.com.com/gamespot/image...p_screen009.jpg
.

3. Stop making rumors sound like facts. Most of the crap rumors that I have to filter within gaming boards always come from you ingrates. For example, somehow Nintendo DS is a failure and that GBA 2 is in the works and to be released soon. Where in God’s name did you get this information IGN? I would love to see where Matt got this information from… Oh you didn’t mean it that way, I see. I guess it was just an ASSumption like most IGN information. Maybe, Matt should check out sales figures of DS worldwide from reputable sites rather than rely always on his 3 inch brain?

4. Don’t criticize Nintendo for lack of originality and innovation when 20 years of gaming innovation has came from them. I am pretty sure PSP has a lot of originality. Man I can’t wait to play GTA, GT, Wipeout, twisted metal and 9 other racing games that are confirmed to come out! Man I have never seen such originality since when PS2 released those games a while ago which were also released on PS1!

To be fair, let’s not bash PSP that much. It does have some original games coming out like Lumines which is a big leap in innovation! Let me tell you, those colorful backgrounds sure does make 80s tetris look so cool!!!

Oh and let’s not forget Mercury… Or was it called Gooball, or was it monkeyball? Man I don’t remember anymore.

Anyways, here are some original titles for Nintendo DS that matt forgot to mention. Pretty much most games coming out on DS will have something that other sequels and new games will never have, a new way of gaming because of the innovations of DS:

Code Another
Nanostray
Meteos
Polarium
Pac Pix
Pac n Roll
New Supermario Bros.
Casltlevania DS
Jump! Supertars
Jam with the Band
WarioWare Touched!
Yoshi Touch&Go
Kirby Touched!
Yu-Gi-Oh!: Nightmare Troubadour
Tendo Dokuta
Prince of Tennis: Crystal Drive
Feel the magic
Sonic DS
Naruto
Deep Labyrinth DS
Nintendogs/puppytimes

5. When you do a hardware review, it would be best if you didn’t mention the competition. No one cares what you have to say what you like better in the other product.

Yes, I know it’s hard for IGN to review hardware without making irrelevant comparative arguments like “PSP looks sexy”. Nevertheless, here is a good example how to do it.

I got this review of Nintendo DS from amazon.com

“This is the first time I have ever submitted a review on anything. I'm a 40+ year old who bought this thing to have fun with and play with my kids. I have never bought a handheld device exclusively for myself before. I also considered the new Sony handheld gaming device in my decision. The reasons I chose the Nintendo: 1. Sony seems to have chosen a strategy to make their device an 'all things in one' kind of machine; that is, it wants to be your MP3 player, your personal video player, a PDA, etc.. It even has a disk drive. Frankly, I'm not interested in all that; I just want the best gamer, and the fact that Sony's attention is invested in these other avenue's tells me that it isn't all invested in gaming. The other factor is the Nintendo incorporation of a second screen, and a touch screen at that. This seems to me a stroke of brilliance that opens up completely new ways of interacting with games. In practice it works every bit as good as theory, if not better. The screens themselves have wonderfully bright and clear graphics, and the sensitivity of the touch interface is just right---not too touch and does not require a heavy pressure to operate. I have developed some thumb joint pain in the past from playing the kids on their X box, and the ability to navigate by touch and thumb movement without constant movement of the joint allows me to play a game longer without discomfort. Not to mention that touch navigation is a much more intuitive method of movement than a touchpad, directional buttons or joystick. I can't stand the game Halo because it takes me forever to get the hang of the joystick movements and I don't have the time to become expert; the touchscreen allows me to start right up with no training curve required. The Sony unit is attractive for its slightly larger screen and faster processor, but as I stated above, I approached this in the mode of purchasing a game machine, not another laptop computer. I would be somewhat nervous about the incorporation of a disk drive in the Sony; they are much more susceptable to problems resulting from shock or jostling, normal to occur with any device as mobile as a handheld gamer. So that is why I went with the Nintendo.

I have the game that came with it a demo of Metroids (I think thats it), Spiderman and Tiger Woods golf. So far, Spiderman is my favorite, but I have not spent much time with the Metroids game yet. Spiderman does not make much use of the touchscreen, so I am really looking forward to software that takes advantage of its obviously next generation capabilities. I think Nintendo has really scored with this thing.”

That’s all folks, there is a lot of bad taste comedy that is going in IGN, but like Jerry Springer, when you had enough, just turn it off. Vote with the remote!

In all honesty, I do not want this post to sound bias, I just think it's the truth and I am doing my part in the bash wars to get the truth out there.....

I'll help raise the bash count for the PSP

Bad battery life
expensive
not durable
UMD disks
sucky games
sucky system
non-working square button
easy to break screen, too big
basically a portable Playstation just more expensive and suckier

I see no reason to bash or even to care.

I buy what I like and what I want. I will be buying a PSP and I have a DS. Does it make you cooler having one over the other? I doubt it. Will you get a hot girlfriend because of your games? I doubt it. If you convince the entire world that the DS is great will your life be any better? I doubt it.

I know lots of people get into the bashing but not me. I state my opinion when the time comes but I see positive in just about every system. The PSP will have more function than the DS so I will most likely use it more. Plus the game selection is rather nice. The DS is great. I love Nintendo games and the where else can I play Animal Crossing or a Mario game but the DS?

Why complain when you can game?

"The PSP will have more function than the DS"

I don't mean to be rude but, actually the DS is going to have a V-Pocket accecory, turning the DS into a game boy/PDA/MP3 player/MPEG player I think thats more than the PSP

But the biggest reason I'm never getting a PSP is because of it's price, if it was around 150 I might get it but I really don't need 2 handheld consoles.

I guess we all have are own opinions though.
