You guys have almost certainly heard about this by now, but GTA: SA has been re-rated by the ESRB and been given an AO rating because of the "hot coffee" mod.
Check it out at gamepolitics.com, you will need to scroll down a bit.
Stores like Best Buy and Target have been pulling it off the shelves, but I think it has been blown way out of proportion. I mean, look at the gang violence, shooting police officers, bad language, drug use, prostitution, ect, ect that were in the game when it launched! It's suprising that a little sexual content is getting so much attention.
But this is absolutely inexcusable on Rockstar's part. Not showing all of the game's content to the ESRB, as it appears the case, shows that the video game industry may be unable to police itself.
There isn't a whole lot of proof as to whether or not the content was in the game from the beginning though...but this content is confirmed to be in the PS2 version of the game.

ooooo, its a scandal!!! wait a minute. Surely they are still alowd to pruduce this game. All they have to do is stick a few warning signs on the box, and there ya go!! the game is rated 18 (english rating, dunno about u guys) anyway, and by the age of 18, alot of boys are used to the idea of prostetution anyway, if ya know what i mean....

i was asking someone who works in the "R Zone" at work the other day to explain this to me. this is what he told me:
"aparently there is a mod you can download through playstation online and xbox that turns all the cinematics into porn. which is dumb because this person who made the mod ruined the game for everyone. i mean come on now, if you want porn just go buy some, its not that hard to get."
pretty much what he told me. i also hear that there is like a 25,000 dollar fine to anyone who sells it(not sure, dont quote me on that). im not so sure about the whole "download the content" thing, but it is possible using a tunneling program or something.
EDIT
and if parents have such a problem with their kids playing the game, pay attention to what theyre buying. it has an M rating for a reason.

Do you work in the R zone, ahadi? I'm always interested in store employees' stories about kids trying to by GTA or another M rated game.
I agree that parents need to pay more attention to what their kids play, but isn't it hard for most parents to keep up with the current games and things like that? I mean, many parents don't know anything about the ESRB ratings, much less the actual games.

i dont work in the R Zone, though i wish i did.
and seriously, if you know your kid is playing a video game, just walk into the room and see what they are doing. if you see it is unfit for them, take the game. or at very least play a bit of it then make the decsion. however, i know my parents dont care(at least not any more. thats why i dont enjoy mortal kombat........) so it is a parenting problem, but it is also the whole "kids want what they cant have...etc...etc".
i pretty much say, if walmart can sell playboys, why cant they sell san andreas? if gamestop can carry "the guy game", "bmx xxx", "the playboy mansion", and "leisure suit larry", buck the shaq-fu up and just sell the damn game.
^bmx xxx sucks, but sold cuz it had titties in it.

I think the ESRB is doing a good job with what they do but the thing that bugs me is those stupid politicians (that don't know the difference from a gamecube and a PS2) say that video games are "a violence training tool" come on they're video games they are meant for entertainment. They are no different from violent movies yet they are treated like they were made by the devil himself. And to tell you the truth 10 year olds are fine with playing games like GTA because they hear the vulger language at school, and the violence and sex is on T.V. So if you want to call this a parenting problem go ahead, maybe it is but if you don't want your kid to see and hear this stuff you have to remember that video games aren't the only place that has all that, I mean any kid can watch south park at 9:00 pm.
My point is, give video games a break. they're not any worse than T.V., movies, music or any other form of entertainment.
it doesnt just make the cinematics porn it has a mini game where you have sex and you control the guy and how he moves. that is why it got an AO. becasue you control the guy having sex on the screen.

We cant control the mods people make...He didnt make a mod, he just tore down the wall protecting the "Hot Coffe" in the games coding.

Yep, it was all pre-programmed into the game, which makes this thing very disappointing. I mean, it's one thing if it wasn't created by Rockstar, but "Hot Coffee" was in the code from the start.

I still can't believe that ANY one would put something like this in a video game. I don't know about you guys but CG sex is not a turn on for me.

Hate to say it, but if your signature pic is any indication, I think I already know your stance on cg sex.

That is what I'm saying, Sam fisher's pose clearly indicates that he had only one sexual spouse in his lifetime, and that he is a good role model to human beings everywhere.
Why do you keep attacking things that you don't understand, I mean, it's people like you that are ruining western progress. I was only trying to be friendly :(
