View Full Version : PSP Shortage Truth or Myth?

Currently I've been getting conflicting reports about how well the PSP will sell. Sony claims they will have 1 million during launch day which should be more than enough to fill a demand for a new handheld console. However many experts are claiming that it will sell out right away and go in shortage. For reference for the PS2 Launch there were 500,000 units on launch day. So there will be twice as many PSP's on launch day. You factor that in with the Handhelds being less popular in general, is it possible that all of it is just meaningless hype?

I think it will be gone at the end of the day for people who did not reserve.

I'm hoping End of the day. If Sony actually comes through with twice as many PSP's as PS2's there will be a lot of happy campers out there.

Im sure people will be able to get them a day or so after from various online stores. Amazon.com had some DS units for 2 days after release

I just hope I can get mine. I hope arriving 1 hour before Best Buy Opens will be sufficient.

There's always Toys R Us. Not many people will think of getting their PSPs there, aside from parents.

I don't know about this sell out. I've heard EB and GS are getting 3 to 4 times more PSPs in than what they expected. My little bitty GR store was thought to get 5 in but we be informed we're getting 22. And we only have 10 on reserve.

All the EB's and GS in our area are still taking first shipment orders for the PSP. Games on the other hand are a different story. EB.com has put release dates for 2nd shipment up on some of them, even though some of there stores are selling them now

Yeah, I agree. If anything some games will be hard to get. Untold Legends and Ridge Racer will be in tight supply.

So in other words if you havent reserved any games yet, and want to get them try and either go to a EB and get the ones available so far, or hit GS early on day of launch

Safest bed is always reserving. And make sure they say your getting it the first day.

well looks like my prediction of a week was pretty much accurate for my area. Just about everywhere in the LA area has sold out (At least Best buys). People are now selling them for 350. Funny how 30 PSPs magically dissapeared at my friend's BB ;)

I still plently around here but this is St. Cloud, MN so I'm not thinking there's going to be a lot of buzz around here. Also, at least at one local gamecrazy, they were talking people out of buying it... Doesn't make much sense to me but I don't think the manager would be too happy if he found out about it.
