Shadow Hearts Covenant is one of my favorite games of all time. Great story, fun characters, great battle system, it has it all. It can be bought for $20 new at many places.
Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga is a GREAT game full of style. If you haven't heard of the SMT game line, it's really a unique role-playing type of game that stems back to the NES. I would also recommend Nocturne as well.
