Big GOW update and 2 new maps!

Epic's Mark Rein has divulged a list of issues that will be addressed by tomorrow's Gears of War update. The update, a prelude to Wednesday's new multiplayer maps, promises to fix the problem that left latecomers to a match without an audible voice. The noted aspect ratio bug that occurred with the Xbox 360's VGA cable has also been crushed beneath the weight of improved code. The full list of fixes reads as follows:

* Fixed aspect ratio distortion when using VGA cable with 4:3 displays at resolutions higher than 640x480
* Fixed voice issue with new players joining Player Match games in progress
* Players can now get the Achievement for "Dish Best Served Cold" when using Troika turret to kill RAAM
* Fixed rare situation where host could loop countdown and never start match
* Fixed rare situation where players could get stuck after chainsawing in multiplayer
* Reduced Grenade Tag melee distance
* Enabled "Strict" NAT check on host to prevent possible connection issues
* Optimized server browser queries to return results more quickly and prevent scroll bars from hiding quality of service icons
* Reduced number of possible revives in Execution to match Warzone
* Removed host name from Ranked match server browser
* Disabled security cameras in Ranked matches
* Ranked matches now require balanced teams (3v3 or 4v4)
* Increased penalty for quitting a Ranked match to -50 points
* Added additional cheat detection code
* Additional housekeeping updates

Those that find themselves exploding at an alarming rate should be pleased to learn that grenade tagging will now require more intimacy to be effective. Indeed, the ones closest to you always end up hurting you the most.

yeh i know it happens at least once every time i play.
I happy that there making it harder for people to tag you with grenades aswell.

Guys the maps don't come with the update you have download them from
marketplace seperateley but there free so all is good :)

Has never happened to me lol, course, I dont chainsaw much...

Anyway, I HATE the removal of the ranked host thing, that means even more difficult for friends to play ranked together...

And btw, the maps, all you will have to do is click the "downloads" button on the GoW main menu, its real easy...

I love these new updates. Especially the one where the teams have to be equal in ranked matches and that you get a good penalty if you quit. So now less people will be quitting. I think that you should get the achievement for killing RAAM with the troika. Getting to the Troika is tricky, and then shooting him down before the Kryll get you is a bit of a challenge.

I am pissed about the name being removed from the server list!! WTF i like to play with people that actual talk and play like a team rather than grabbing the sniper rifle and hanging back until everyone else dies and then die themselves. i downloaded the map pack and the theme this morning before school. its like 90 mb and 4mb for the theme. havent tried them out and i porbably wont even know which maps are new since i havent really played every map online yet

TBG, you downloaded the Map Pack TRAILER, that is 110MB, scroll ALL the way down to the bottom and the last 2 are the Theme and Maps...

So of the 2 new maps which one is your favorite? I like Old Bones, but I don't really care for Raven Down because it is to small and I don't like how some of your team spawns on a different end. I like sticking with my team because it seems to work much better then splitting up. I did have my best GOW live moment though on Raven's Down. All my teammates were take out right away so it was me vs. 4 of them. They all were coming down upon me so I jumped out took out one with one shot and then another with two shots. I jumped back and ran back to a different cover point. One was coming on one side and the other on the other side. I took out the guy tht got to me first right away and then jumped to aviod the other guys fire. I had a pretty long battle but I was able to finally take this guy out. That game won us the match so yeah. Pretty much everyone thought that I was like the greatest player ever, but yeah I am far from it.

The latest update :
Only a couple of weeks after Gears of War got its first big update, Epic Games has rolled out a new mandatory update for the game. Many wondered if the update will fix some of the existing issues the game is experiencing, including the yet unsolved VGA bug.

Unfortunately, this latest patch doesn't fix any known bug. Mark Rein explained in the official Gears of War forums that "it is a minor compatibility update. No gameplay or functionality changes at this time." However, Rein promised the next update will finally let users of SXGA monitors get true 1280x720 (720p) image letterboxed within 1280x1024.

The last update we got was so we could play with them online or something
