View Full Version : GBA Micro
This think looks pretty neat, but I dont like the fact that the screen is SMALLER than the GBA screen.

It is supposed to be the size of an Ipod Mini and have 2/3 the weight.

That is a waste of money. Sure it's smaller but if you already have a GBA or an SP then you really won't need it. But you could always trade in your old GB and get this smaller one.

Ill probably get one. I was thinking about buying a SP again for wario ware twisted, since I hear its a pain in the neck to play it on a DS. I'll just wait for this instead. :D

that might make it worthwile, for those quick trips where you dont have time for a PSP game, or an involved DS game. just whip this out for a quick mario vs dk match.

I don't own any Gameboys. I would buy this, it could fit in the fifth pocket of your Levi's it seems. And you would have DonkeyKong with you always. :P

I'll probably get one of these to replace my broken SP. I have a DS but that's kinda bulky for just playing GBA games.

will my flash cart still work with it?
I liked how the screen on the SP was protected, but I like how the mini has a normal headphone jack. If they added in a SD slot for mp3 playback I'd be more interested.

Nintendo has a bit of a reputation as being behind the technology curve ball for me. The NES was far from a technical leap from the 2nd generation systems from the '80s. The Game boy was a joke compared to the Atari Lynx which was out at the same time. The N64's capabilities paled compared to the CD based PS1, and the Game Cube...what no DVD playback? That being said I think they might have it right this time. While no PSP I really dig the micro thing and while I do take my PSP with me often it's not always convenient. Ya know?

Matt -
The GBA was like the second coming of the SNES. Yeah there were a lot of ports and kiddie crap but you had the Castlevanias, The Zeldas, The Marios, FFTA, The Metroids and the list goes on... For a Nintendo fan the GBA is a great system. Maybe you're not a Nintendo fan. And if you're not a Nintendo fan why are you in this thread? ;)

That thing is way too small. I play games like Superstar Saga or Shining Force. I'd like to be able to read the text on the screen. If it wasn't at the press conference, I'd swear it was just a joke.

Thats like comparing the gba to one of thoses lcd games with only like four positions for your person...
I'm thinking they will release it for like 50 bucks.
i like the idea prsonally, its about time that portable games were actually portable...
I really like the idea of faceplates too.

I thought the games were good but I have enough RPGs and platformers for my console. The only games I liked for the GBA were FF, Golden Sun, and Zelda. The Castlevanias were ok, but I think Mario is just a cash cow now.

Why are we even talking about this peice of crap when most of us have a PSP? Ya'll are all comparing it to other nintendo handhelds and just relizing that the main difference in just about all of them is the bateries and backlit screen. The graphics are all just about the same and they have been for the past 15 years!

Its cute....I might buy one if it cost like 50 bucks. But that seems unlikely with every Nintendo handheld costing about $200(CDN) at release, then dropping to a "mere" 100 in like 2 years

Nintendo should have just stopped at the SP. I mean what the hell were they thinking making it so damn small?
Nintendo should have stopped at the SNES. I mean seriously, the GB could be played by a retarded monkey and even he'd get bored and probably whip it at some idiot at the zoo. The DS and Gamecube were meagre attempts at a useful system, the DS being a scaled down palm pilot, The gamecube a 40 year old loser living @ homes lover, and the N64 a blocky, cartidge using awkward piece of CRAP.
The PSP is the superior system, which could beat all three hand down, handhold console or not. I mean seriously, Nintendo is Dead.

The micro is meant as a fashion statement, kinda like the iPod. You can even change the face plates. Whether it is practical, it's hard to judge until you hold one in your hand and play it. Like most Japanese products, small is always better. That's why the humongous XBox failed miserably in JP.

with hands growing bigger, they have produced the first handheld that one can actually grow out of lol.

That and the fact that Japan is fiercely independent when it comes to technology. "Western-developed? We must boycott!"
Back to the Game Boy Micro... It's small. Really really small. Faceplates are an awesome idea, that way they won't have 800 different-colored units clogging up shelves. And to Matt, as far as 99% of GBA games being crap... have you checked out your local game store's PS2 section lately? The same rule applies to consoles as handhelds: best-selling unit = millions of sales for developers, no matter what kind of crap they spew out. And believe me, there are plenty of gems in the GBA lineup.
As far as picking one up... I traded in my original GBA and my SP toward my PSP, so I probably will. I horribly miscalculated on the DS being a decent way to play GBA games.
