Stupid question, but why is it still being called "next-gen", I mean, all three consoles are out, shouldn't it be the current-gen now?

Well the PS3 isn't even out in Europe yet and the PS2 still has a lot of new games being released

Consoles tend to release games for a while after they're over with. Most are dumbed down ports, but eh. Sometimes people can't afford the higher class systems for a while. Gives us broke guys a chance to catch up, and the companies to make a little bit of profit from us at the same time.
Next-Gen is just the term for the newest systems out on the market. (most expensive too :P) Once everyone starts the rumors for Ps4, XBox 1080 (), and Nintendo's next creation, they will be referred to as Next-Gen, and the PS3, 360, and Wii will all be referred to as Curren-Gen, or whatever else applies.
So to sum up, it's the systems after current-gen, a little during current gen, and before the "next-next-gen" rumors erupt.
Simple enough, right? Maybe I just made it way too complicated. lol

So how long will it take until they are called current gen consoles?

I think by the time summer hits us there will be no more next gen talk. The Xbox and PS2 have only a few titles coming out and will eventually die off.

As has allready been said, I think it will stop being refered to when #1 the "next gen" of consoles is announced or when the PS2/Xbox die off...
