First off, let me just say I have had an Ipod since I was 12, I recently had to buy a new one because my 4G Ipod died. I am reviewing the newer 5G Ipod Video 30GB Black(Doesn't make a difference)

Appearance + What comes in the box
~First off when you open the box you can expect to find the manual + disclaimers, ipod, headphones, case, and the usb cable. I was a little disappointed to find that there was no wall charger(one came with my 4G). Out of the box this thing is extremely sleek and stylish. The smartdock had to be removed from the Ipod, so many accessories will plug into the bottom port. The screen is a decent size and the Ipod Video really shows innovation with style. However the ipod video has been known to break easy with a little drop, I recommend getting a protection plan. :)

Set Up
~Basically this thing runs off itunes, the menus are organized. Movies are organized by type (TV, Movie, Music Vid). The photo feature offers a slideshow setting which is something you can find useful. Music plays clear on the ipod and it is easy to navigate through menus

Changes
~So you ask why is the new Ipod video different from the original Ipod? Well, i'll tell you, there is longer playtime on videos. There is also an added search feature to find songs. Not to forget if you have a jillion songs like me when you scroll down the songlist rapid fire a big letter appears to tell you where you are, so you never pass your song. The screen is 60% brighter to the early 5g ipod. And gapless playback.

The Breakdown
Pros: Lower price than previous 5G iPod; brighter screen; improved video-related battery life; new game support; gapless playback; Quick Scroll and search features; slightly better headphones; all the features of the original 5G models.

Cons: Requires Internet connection to download necessary software; search feature kludgy; 30GB can fill up quickly if you store lots of video; games drain battery life rapidly; power adapter not included.

Overall Rating

9/10

Suggestions: If you have had an Ipod prior, it will be easy to adapt or if all your songs are in itunes you won't have to move them.
