here im going to post some simple tutorials so that photoshop noobs can get the hang of making some decent sigs, this week ill show you how to make glowing text:

first of all create the sig and add the text you want to glow

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v682/stevand88/1.gif

then open up the layers pallet, right click your text layer and click blending options

click outer glow and select the colours you want and then apply these settings

and you should get somthing like this...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v682/stevand88/4.gif

now go to file save as and choose PSD/PDD

the open uo your blending options again for the text layer and set outer glow->opacity and set it to 0 then select ok

chose file save for web and save it as a JPEG and on maximum and save it in a new folder on your desktop

once more select your blending options for the text and increase the outer glow opacity to 10%, save it for web the same as before and name it "1"

repete this step all the way to 100%
Eg. add 10% save it for web , add another 10% save it for web

once it gets to 100% you should have the image you started wih plus 11 jpegs and a PDD in a folder, close your PDD file and open up you first JPEG file, open up the second and cut and paste it as a new layer in the first, repeate this till you have all your JPEGS as different layers

like this....

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v682/stevand88/5.jpg

import the files into Image Ready and make 11 new frames

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v682/stevand88/6.jpg

now in the first frame make the first image visable and all the rest invizable by clicking the little eye beside the picture in the layers pallet in the second frame make the second frame visable and the rest invisable and so on and so on till you have each on of the 11 images in its own frame.

you can mess with the time delay between each frame for how fast/slow you want your image to play, i usually set mine to bout 0.01 second

THERE YOUR DONE !!!! give yourself a pat on the back, well done, hope you enjoyed it

More is good.

Do you know anywhere I could get ImageReady? Flash makes it ugly. Also, is there a way to make a layer mask another layer?

imageready comes with photoshop as far as i know and if you dont have it ummm iono. dl it. Also why do you need to make seperate files why not just start out making 11+ layers?

Oh, does it? I have some crazy pirated Russian photoshop, I don't think mine had ImageReady. The shortcut to ImageReady doesn't work (not activated)

theres an easier way to animate.

when right on imageready, u should have 2 layers, one layer with the glow effect off and another with the golw effect on.

2- so now, in the animation frame, lets say...it first going to be off, so we deselct the "eye" on the "on2 one.

3-then create another animation frame then select the "off" eye and deselect the "on" one.

now, go to TWEEN then NEXT FRAME then 30 frames.

now click PLAY. and enjoy.

wouldnt that just make the text flash on and off insted of fading in and out ?
