lol, must've been nice.
i dont need a whole lot, just w/e fits the requirements.
i dont need tons of RAM or anything over a 160gb hdd or any other expensive perks, just a basic gaming computer.
Screw Alienware. Go with www.sagernotebooks.com
Awesome systems. Lower prices than Alienware. The name doesnt mean crap anymore. It's like Dell, there are better alternatives.
Go with a custom paint job from Falcon Northwest.Or a nice Voodoo, Those are both by FAR better than Alienware.

i want a voodoo, but they are way too expensive...i think i found an alienware, so i'll give everyone that posted in this thread 60 umds.

$1,800 bucks with good stuff. If you need help remaking the config, let me know. I swear, it's a good PC.
I win.
Even if the contest is over.
On a side note, if you are looking for a Laptop, The Dell XPS is the best out right now.
NEVER. I repeat, NEVER buy a D3LL.
A desktop no, because the power sup/mobo/everything is tied into the fact that you HAVE to then upgrade through them. For laptops, they all have limited upgradeability, and the XPS is proven #1. I on the other hand am looking at the new AMD 64 FX 60........Gotta outdo myself every system. LOL.
D3LL systems suck, laptop, desktop, media centre, doesn't matter.

Meh brand names mean nothing. Its whats inside that counts. People pay too much for a case.
If you buy an Alienware, that just means one of three things:
1. You dont know squat about purchasing a computer.
2. You have so much money, it's just a novelty.
3. 1 & 2.
Sorry. It's true. Alienware used to be the best, about 7 years ago probably. Maybe more. There are other companies that offer the same options, better options, for less money.

1) I do know about purchasing a computer
2) I'm not rich, i just saved up money to buy a new computer and still will pay monthly for it.
I dont care about brand names...sure its cool to tell you people you have an alienware, but thats not what matters (plus i like to buy products from companies i have heard of rather than start ups or smaller ones). And i dont really need anotebook, so sager isnt gonna do it for me. if i get a notebook, then i'll get something cheap and basic casue all i would do is use it for school stuff and some music and aim, but thats it...the cheap dell would do it for me on the notebook side. i need a good powerful desktop. i chose alineware becasue i know them, they have powerful desktops, and its not that bad price wise.
Ahhh... I thought you were looking for a notebook. My bad on that end. As far as a desktop goes, I'd go with something with an AMD in it. Nothing against Intel, but I've gone both ways with it, and havent looked back since builing my first A64.
Check out these:
http://www.abscomputers.com/
http://www.falcon-nw.com/index.asp
or consider buying your components and building it youself.
I've used computers from both of the above companies, and they are top notch boxes. Great customer service as well.
If Alienware is where your heart is set, go for it. They aren't slouches by any means. They have great computers, at a premium price. Let us know how it goes.

Yeah, sorry for not making it clear on desktop/laptop. i still think the alienware i'm aiming at is cheaper than the other ones, even tho there nice.

Do alienwares have IR ports?
Stop asking that. IRDa ports are slower than 14400kb modems.

Understood. However, the school I'm going to this fall (Polytech U) requires them to print to the local printers there from your laptop. Otherwise you have to print from the school computers.
You can buy an adapter for that, like 5 bucks. You know that right?

I didn't know that actually. Do they come extra tiny? cuz i don't want to carry around a cabled IR device to my laptop.

naaa man. Alienwares are one-of-a-kind. Anyway, I decided I'd go with a low-power consumption gateway. $2006.
They arent one-of-a-kind anymore. You can buy their shells on ebay, and several other places. What are the specs on that GW ?

Not bad. As far as what the Alienware features you mentioned above.. you can get those features elsewhere. You'll be happy with that GW though. The vid card isnt the best, but it'll do.

^^^Yeah, its the best deal I could find. The HPs have X700s, but they don't mention battery life for any of their laptops. This Gateway is supposed to be able to go on upto all day.
The battery life should be decent with at. Let us know how well it goes once you get it.
