I wanted to get a HUGE Alienware laptop with a widescreen 17" display as a bday gift. Well, I'm off to college soon and I've been given the laptop requirements. Upon close inspection I see this:

14.1 TFT SXGA LCD Display, 1024x768/1400x1050

This means no Alienware, no 17" and NO WIDESCREEN!!! NOOOOOOO!

So now I gotta get an el-cheapo tiny laptop. :( I like barely portable laptops...

Actually, I just checked online. They said that thats the recommended configuration. They said that if I opt to go for better than the minimum requirement, that I do it at my pleasing. So I'm actually cool. Mod, delete if you must.

i don't understand why you would want a latptop that big. portability is what they are made for. might as well get a desktop for MUCH cheaper  oh well to each his own.

Yes, I realized this a while ago, so I decided to go with something much smaller with much better battery life (8 hours instead of 1).

Gateway® NX550XL:
Pentium M 1.73GHz
XP PRO
1GB DDR2-533 RAM
100GB HD
15.4" WXGA LCD (1280x800 res)
DVD Burner
Integrated wireless b/g
ATi Radeon Mobility X600 128MB graphics
12-cell battery for upto 8 hours battery life
$2006 (including shipping and tax)

The video card isn't the best, but its pretty good for a 15.4" screen. I realized that I leave all my PC gaming for my current desktop. My current laptop is no good for gaming and I use it anyway without missing the graphics. So I guess I'll be fine with a non-gaming beast laptop.

Oh wow! Let's all take an oppertunity to gang up on Hidavi and say derogatory things about him! [sarcasm/]
:lame:

That's lame guys... real lame. This guy askes you guys for advice and all you have o say to him is, "you whine a lot." What's happening to the wonderful tight-knit community we used to have, where people didn't take cheap shots like that at other members for no reason? [shakes head] :(
