You must have all heard about this by now, it was announced at GDC 07. Basically, its Sony's (very good) answer to the Wii's Mii and Plaza experiences.

You create an avatar, from a huge catalogue of clothes, faces, facial features.. etc.

You can even have your own apartment and furnish it yourself.

Its due to launch this autumn, I think worldwide???

Anywayz. what doe everyone think about this?

DISCUSS!

Actually, it isn't an answer to Mii's because i saw an interview of 1up and Phil Harrison where he said this:

1UP: I'd talked with someone and he said he'd seen Home a long time ago -- last summer, actually. Why have you been sitting on this for so long?
Harrison: Well we've been working on it for a long time. We've been working on it for PlayStation 3 for a couple of years and it actually started life on the PlayStation 2. I think it's something that we wanted to demonstrate at the right time to the right audience, and GDC is the right place to share the vision for Home because it's as much about the game developers as it is about the users. So I think starting at GDC was perfect timing. And I'm really pleased with the reaction that we've had so far because people clearly understand the vision and we can build from there. I think if we tried to launch Home or share the information about Home in the middle of all of the the chaos that surrounds a hardware launch, that would have just been another complex message. But I'm really happy that we chose this event.

1UP: But it would have been a way to perhaps combat some of the negativity out there on the message boards. Because whether or not you agree with this, a lot of people looked at this as a reaction to the successful Nintendo Mii characters and what's gone on with Xbox Live.
Harrison: I have no comment to make because obviously it's not a reaction -- I mean, how could we possibly react so quickly to something that we only would have seen last year? We like what Nintendo's doing -- there's some cool stuff -- but we're taking a much different approach.
Especially read the second one.

Anyways, in my opinion i love the idea. If everything is free then you CANNOT go wrong. i guess you have to pay for some furniture and crap, but oh well i'll just use the basics. Resistance Wallpaper here I come!.....Q3 2007:(

Sony can't even come up with an "original" idea. I bet most of the user will be 90% gay males and pedophiles.

Update October release

"After all the buzz spurred by Sony's introduction of their ambitious PS3 Home environment from the GDC, we now have a launch date for it. Yes, folks. Sony has revealed that they intend to launch it this October, with an initial free download coming in at "under 500MB".

Here's what's gonna happen 'til then. There will be a closed beta phase between April and August for around 15, 000 users, while an open beta will be in operations for 50, 000 or so people between August and the launch date itself. Exciting, eh? While there still have yet to be details out regarding this beta opportunities, you better keep it posted here for more news on that.

As for the features, Sony has also said that there are some which will most likely be accessible via the PSP as well as mobile phones. Also, there will be special paid-for events for you guys coming your way. More on the features:

Currently Home is not a persistent world, so when you leave Home, all of your possessions go with you. For instance, it is not currently possible for other users to visit your apartment while you are not there... We are working on the persistent aspect of Home, and expect to implement it in the long term."

Sure thing, but you might wanna watch out for all those "homos" hahaha.

And I actually kind of like the fact that it looks like The Sims... those games were addictive. I like to play games with advanced customization options and sim games, the social aspect would be a really cool new twist.

If you have time for MSN or whatever messenger you use, you have time for this. I think it look's like a good idea, even if it isn't original. The PS3 really has nothing to lose, only gain.

There is so much more than chatting. Arcade games, Pool, bowling, movie theatre. Screw chatting.

I would guess that you go to a virtual cinema, pay in with either virtual or real money, then watch the movie in your home instead of having to go to the cinema to see it ???
Hopefully it works like that anyway, it would be amazing.
