They created the Gizmondo, a device thought once to be capable of rivaling the PSP and the DS. http://gizmondo.com/index.asp

Never even heard of it. Checked out the games for it, nothing looked good to me anyway.

Sadly, the Gizmondo was doomed to failure from the start.
With the PSP and DS imminent, they tried to snatch a piece of the market. When compared to the DS and PSP, it had neither the graphical might of the PSP nor the fanbase of Nintendo and in that instance, was unlikely to ever beat the two or compete.
Outright as a piece of gadgetry, it was fine. GPS, 3d graphics but when the main title released for it was Duke Nukem 3D and not many game shops stocked it or its accessories, it was only a matter of time before it collapsed.
Nokia have learned this and have intergrated their Nokia N-Gage technology into ALL their future phones, meaning a slicker experiance and a larger potential market. Sadly, the Gizmondo can't do the same.
