Ok this is one of my first ever posts back on PSP forums. I didnt get too many replies and i think its quite an intresting topic. I hope the mods dont mind me re posting this
well i have just come home from my mates house we decided to play a bit of Mario world reminded me of the good time. Upon returning home i went up unto my loft and blew the cobwebs off my mega drive (genesis or woteva its called in America) and played a bit of sonic. IMO the 2d versions of both games are immense but i particularly like sonic its 2d format more than Mario

the depth in the sonic games is brilliant for the year it was made the way you can spin down corkscrews at full speed and then run over water and then being catapulted onto a spring that launches you miles into the air without even trying makes the game really fun and ads to the wow factor when you playing makes me have a huge smile the game is realy fun.The charchters levels and Dr robotnik bosses are a great addition.
Mario in its 2d stage IMO opinion isn't as good as sonic it just seems a little slow and sluggish altho completing mario world is very very satisfying a lot more so tho than sonic.

moving on to its 3d stage Mario has overtaken sonic easily Mario world 64 was brilliant the original versions of Mario in 2d have transformed really well over to the next gen consoles keeping nintendo's aim top of the list FUN

Mario sunshine on gamecube was also really great introducing a whole new level to Mario gaming stunning graphics and great controls makes for smooth gameplay

on the other hand sonic hasn't transformed to well from its 2d stage don't get me wrong its still great 3d but not as stunning as Mario in 3d. the controls on the new versions arnt brilliant and camera angles aren't good at all and in all the new sonic games feel rushed and just have a general feel of emptiness and depth compared to the new mario games

conclusion
i think the old 2d sonic games wins hand down compared to Mario in 2d but the 3d Mario completely outclasses sonic in every way so for this battle i hand Mario the crown as the 3d games produced overshadow sonic 2d and 3d . i think Sega should of kept the winning formulae they Had with the orignal versions of sonic
what do other people think??
