Importing Game Discs (including UMDs) from Outside the EU. This information only applies to games. Alternative Items will have a different customs duty, however V.A.T is always payable at 17.5%, unless the company includes it in the price.
If you buy an item from a company such as Lik-Sang or PlayAsia, and have it imported to the UK, you MAY be liable for charges. HM Revenue and Customs have the following rules in place:
Custom Duty - Payable at 0 - 4.7%, waived if this is below £7 (percentage dependant on type and weight)
V.A.T at 17.5% - Payable on commercial goods over £18, and "gifts" over £36.
The Custom Duty of 0-4.7% is the "flat rate" for consigniments under £280. If you are importing good worth more than this, then please contact HM Customs and Excise.
Extra Note - Royal Mail have a flat fee of £4 for handling imported packages. This flat fee is for bulk items, letters, and small padded envelopes.
