This guy is going to build me a custom computer - he builds them and runs a computer selling buisness out of his house - he has sold thousands of computers.
But heres the thing - i wanna know if im getting ripped off..
Here are some of the specs of the comp -
Custom Case with Blue Leds
200gb HDD
P4 2.66gz Hyperthreading
512mb DDR Ram
Radeon 9400
He is asking 375 for it - is that a good deal? He said the chip itself costs 100 or so - the HDD was prolly like 100 or 200 - and i bet the ram was expensive.
So is it a good deal?
HERE IS A PIC OF ONE LIKE HE IS BUILDING ME!!

Yeah it looks awesome - abnd perfor
ms awesome too haha.
Well to be honest...
It's not such a great deal.
The case isnt going to cost more than $50.
The ram can be purchased for less than $50.
The video card should be free, as it's crap.
Doesnt say what type of mobo you'd be getting.
Here is a list of hard drives that are all under $100. LINK (http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.asp?Submit=ENE&N=2010150014+1035307796&Subcategory=14&description=&srchInDesc=&minPrice=&maxPrice=&ATTR1=&ATTR2=&ATTR3=2010150014+1035307796&ATTR4=&ATTR5=&ATTR6=&ATTR7=)
It doesnt say what else comes with it ? Optical drive ? Monitor ?
You can get a better configured Dell for the same price. And that would include a CRT monitor or small LCD. Your "friend" is trying to make money off you with his left over crap.

Yeah im running P3 800mhz right now - i really need a upgraded comp.
And i dont know anyone who can build me one or get the parts so its worth it if i am not getting a good deal.
He gave me prices on what he spend about -
MOBO - 110
HDD - 115
RAM - 60
Case - 50
Chip - 120
DVD Burner - 50
Power Supply - 30
Radeon 9400 - 70
Thats 435 worth of parts
Plus he is giving me a complete warranty and building it for me.
So its worth it.

You can customize a dell

You can customize a dell
And spend alot more.
I'd suggest going to wal-mart and getting something from there as a cheap alternative or Dell. I'd go Dell over eMachines though.

True, but you get support, stupid dell software, and it comes in an ugly case ooooooooo
Its up to you do whats right for you

A comp with that much shit like that is like 900+ at stores..
Plus he is fixing my comp i have now so i can give it to my mom.
I'm telling you, that you will be getting a bad deal. You obviously didnt know that already or you wouldnt have asked. Do what you want though. I've given my opinion on it. The video card he's selling in that comp is complete crap. You won't play many games with that. The CPU is crap as well. You can buy a cheaper AMD that outperforms the Intel by leaps and bounds.
I think you'll be paying too much for too little. The CPU is more expensive than the rest of the components put together.
Like I said, do what you want though.

Where else would i get a computer that good for that price?
Knightmare

Ebay
m1ndless
02-25-2006, 10:40 PM
Yeah but ebay wont fix the comp if it ever gets broken again :)

But your friend will
Spend a little more, get a lot better. If that's all the money you have to work with, then buy it.
Here ya go, everything that you listed above.
Case - $44.99 (http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=168086)
CPU - $156.00 (http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=80699-5)
DVD Burner - $44.99 (http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=172512)
RAM - $39.50 (http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=80098-6)
MOBO, Video, Audio, LAN - $66.99 (http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=249005)
HDD - $88.00 (http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=101213-11)
TOTAL = $440.47
That will be a MUCH better computer than you'd be purchasing for a mere $65.47 more. Sure you'd have to build it yourself, or get someone else to do it. That's part of the fun of getting a "custom" computer though.

Maybe ill just update the comp i have now?
If i get that motherboard - can it use SD ram? I currently have 1gb SD in my comp.
It might be cheaper and easier to update the comp i have now.

That motherboard is DDR RAM. you would have to buy new sticks of RAM to go on there.
Ram is super cheap right now. Check that link I posted above. It has pretty much the essentials. If your case supports the new mobo, you're golden.
Get the new CPU/Mobo/Ram and put it all together.

Is AMD better than Pentium or something?
And how do i find out if my case can use that mobob - i have a huge case - larger than most i have like 3 fans or something.

Yes, AMD is better than Pentium. The MoBo F34R posted is really nice, its dual core.
Motherboards come in two "standard" sizes, often referred to as
"full" and "baby" (or occasionally "babt AT"). A full size motherboard
only fits in a full size case. It just won't fit into a mini tower
or a mini desktop case. A "baby" motherboard will fit any case, either
full or mini.
Exceptions to this are usually integrated motherboards (found in
Packard Bell and Tandy computers, etc). These are custom boards that
fit custom cases. It is more bother than it is worth to re-use either
the case or the mother board from one of these systems.
Most normal cases can accomodate a wide variety of motherboards.

I have a FULL size case - its huge i know its full size - its gotta be.
So should i get that mobo and cpu and ram f34r posted?
I dont want to spend soo much - i just want a decent computer that can run games and stuff.

It looked looked like a good deal to me until FEAR pointed some of that stuff out!

I think just updating my current comp will be cheaper and ill end up with an overall better computer.
What about this one? Its faster than that AMD you showed me and much cheaper.

Ok what if i do this chip with that mother board fear posted?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103606
You'll need to get a different motherboard. That cpu you put up is a socket 754, the mobo i posted is a sock 939. Go with the 939. I know money may be an issue, so save what you have, and add a little more to it later. Trust me, it'll be worth it when the time comes to upgrade again later.

02-26-2006, 06:21 PM
the cpu you showed me was only 1.8gz though..
I might as well get a 2.8 for the same price but P4
But if you say so - is AMD really betteR? I want to play games like half life 2 and fear will that be good enough - i thouht games like those required a much higher ghz.
Cant i overclock or something like that?

I know i need a processor - you seriously need to stop spamming my thread and make your own.
And if you would have read the thread - we already talked about processors - read before you post.
