160,000 PS3's were sold across Europe over the launch weekend, meaning that Europe officially likes the PS3 more than the 360, which sold less within the same period of time.

Xbox 360 didnt even have that many units at launch
i think it was somthing like under 400k for the whole of europe. The concolse was constantly sold out for almost 4 months after launch.
I can buy a PS3 in just about any store here thats not a bad thing by the way it shows sony have shipped enough for the region and will benefit from extra sales.
I bet there was quite a lot of orginal people that wanted a 360 but was put off by the huge wait.
I think now is too early to comapre sales maybe by may/june would be better to see if there sales are peaking now or just starting to pick up

no im quite sure by the start of 2009 PS3 will be top again not sure about 2008
Doesn't matter how many systems have sold... Sony is screwing up big time with the exclusion of online modes in the games. Developers aren't willing to put the time, money, and effort into their own online infrastructure. This leaves games without online play for the most part. Games that truly benefit from online play will be purchased for other systems... such as the newly released Virtua Tennis 3. The game is completely addictive. The 360 version is the only release that comes with online capabilities. These types of games, FPS, racers, sports games, are always fun offline, but the online play gives them a HUGE boost in sales, and is where all the replay value is.

Sony is doing some things right and some things wrong. Right now Microsoft is doing things right and continue to do so especially with the new Elite system being released. Sony needs to improve the dashboard and XMB options drastically. Sony is working on it and has improved a little bit with the last update. 360 has 65 game demos to Sonys 9 or so. Games and movies arent going to win this war. User interface and marketplace/shop features are going to win it. Right now Microsoft is dominating. But Sony has a nice trick up their sleeves that might sucker punch M$. PS Home! If PS Home is as good as we all hope then this might be what wins Sony the war.
Also Sony is bringing in their own "acheivement" type awards to the table.

This all sounds good, but it might be "little too late". I doubt Sony can even play catch-up with Live! at this point. I don't think the market place stuff is going to WIN anything. It's a feature in the on-line aspect of the gaming, and it's something that Microsft has been beefing up. On-line play is where this war will be won, or lost. How many games are there available that can be played on-line ? Of those, what type of experience are users getting ?
I'm not going to count Sony out of this, because that would be ignorant. I'm just saying Sony won't dominate this new generation of gaming with it's complacency about the importance of on-line gaming.

Sony have acknowledged that online gaming is the key, and they are working hard to push software that has really good online aspects, look at warhawk, that game is completely online.
I think you are judging the future of Sony's online gaming based on the launch titles alone, the developers are just getting to grips with this system, and when they start pushing games that make good use of all those teraflops, the tables might start to turn and put the wind up Microsoft.
what i see is games coming out that on-line capabilities are crucial to the success of a game. i.e. Virtua Tennis 3. Amazing game.... no on-line with the PS3. On-line with the 360.
They had better get with it... or this could be a trend.

VT is more to do with the studio's who produced it
i bielive sumo worked on the 360's and made the online factor
not sure who worked on the PS3's version
and dont ask me why they decieded it was a good idea to use two diffrent studios

They'll usually use two diff studios as far as one for on-line and another for campaign but I'm not too sure about different studios b/t cosoles. Honestly I hope the war comes out about even. I would hate to see one console dominate b/c the last thing we need is one console running everything.

AM3 worked on the PS3 version and sumo did the 360 version and techincaly the 360 version is a port of the PS3 version
how is the 360 version a port of the ps3 version ? As far as it being more about the studios who produced it... if Sony had the infrastructure and support for on-line play, it'd have been included.
This is all kinda getting off topic now lol... someone start a VT thread lol.

If someone wants to make a virtual home, person and wants to walk around in this virtual world with their friends they'll download 2nd life for free instead of paying 600+ to do it.
most people i know that have the internet have had a go at 2nd life and not really liked it so i don't know how they'll take to ps home

If Microsoft can snag Metal Gear Solid 4 and get it on the 360, which they are trying to do, then the Playstation 3 is as good as dead.

.
But there are many gamers like me that dont care about playing online. I really think marketplace is going to win the war.

Nintendo already has some rights to FF, I believe.
At least with Chronicles and a few other GBA games. It's a start.

Chronicles sucked, but the handheld games such as Final Fantasy Tactics Advance and Final Fantasy 3 are great.

And they're on a different system, other than Playstation-associated systems. :D
I have yet to see a Final Fantasy on PSP, though... o.O
