Guitar Hero II - Worth It?

Is this game fun? I am thinking about getting it, I have played the first one a little but never had the time to get into it cause I would only play like one song at walmart.

I also saw there was an effects pedal confirmed, does that mean you can like make your own songs or something?

Is it worth the money to buy it?

The PS2 one is scratched and the second player wireless controller adapter thing got lost in a drunken tradgedy, so we just decided "meh, let's get the new one"

The graphics look a lot better and the extra songs will be worth it.

Man, my local blockbuster has this game, so Im going to pick it up tonight or tommorow. Ive never really played this game, just in stores a few times. So I have all the same questions as Mindless. Will this game last me a long time too, like good replay value. Also are there any newer songs on the game or just old songs and bands {i mean the year, not from previous games}

Doubt you'll get the guitar if you rent it from blockbuster though since it is playable on a standard controller.

The ps2 version is good so the 360 one is worth it I think.

And there won't be a thirdparty wireless unless they make a wireless adapter plug into the 360 then go to the guitar since microsoft won't give away the encryption to their wireless or something like that, but guitars have leads, so who cares?

After playing this game its amazing how much I appreciate the acoustics of the songs. Normally I only listen to the words and pay no mind to the band itself. While trying to just hit buttons to make the music I find myself amazed that people actually do this on a real guitar. Now I find myself focusing on whats going on behind the words and for me its making all these songs new again.

Holy **** guys. I bought this game from blockbuster today... I LOVE IT. I played it from like 3:30pm to 9:30pm with only a few breaks in between. I am SOOO glad I bought this. I beat the easy difficulty and am halfway through medium. Since Ive never play Gh before this, I find it hard to get used to hitting 4 buttons at a time and such. I can only imagine what Hard will be like. Well I suggest getting this game to anyone with a 360.. Ill keep you posted on where I am and such.

I just have a few questions:

1. How do you actually get to do encores? Like is there a special way or is it random.?

2. When do you think there will be downloads for this game?

1. You have to do career mode on medium or higher. Once you play any 4 songs on each set, you get an encore.

2. Not sure, probably a few weeks from now.

I think you get encores when you do really good, or like start out bad then just shred ass for the rest of it.

If you think your whammy bar is broken, do the following:

1. Plug the "X-Plorer" guitar into your PC.
2. Let it install the drivers.
3. Go to Start>Control Panal>Game Controllers> And select the Guitar.
4. On the box, click the "Test" tab.
5. The "X Axis" is the whammy bar. Try wiggling it around to see its responce. It should go full way.

I just did 22ish of the songs on easy,this game is fun. I really liked playing the Monkey Wrench song, and that one by the Butthole Surfers is really fun too.

It is a bit hard to get used to if you havent played before. Well it was for me at least. IM almost done medium, but Im at some really hard songs. Once you get used to it it gets a bit easier, but still a bit tricky

I just beat it on medium on the 360 version(I've already done it on PS2)...
Ohh and I only missed ONE NOTE on "Tattooed Love Boys"... sonuvagun.... ONE NOTE away from getting the perfectionist achievement...
But yeah... beating medium twice...
I guess this means I should start figuring out that fifth button deal, huh...?
It makes my hand have to stretch far and it hurts. :(
So far the only song I can pass on Hard is "Mother".

Has anybody completed Freebird on hard? The first part is easy, then comes the more upbeat tune that really screws me up. I can only complete 20% of the songs on hard, I beat all the medium songs with 4-5 star performances.

Try placing your pinky on the orange fret and your index finger on the red fret, and all of the other fingers in between. Your middle finger ALWAYS has to be on the yellow fret as a "home" key unless you have green and red note chords or if they are coming at you really fast. This way, on hard+ modes, you don't have to worry about the orange notes. Your index finger and stretch to the green notes better than your pinky can stretch to the orange notes and it's better than shifting all the time.

Damn, Medium is HARD. At least to me, I did like 18 of the songs, I got 3-4 stars on all of them.

Its really fun though, but hard seems like its going to be tough, how am I going to hit that 5th key? Its going to really confuse me.

You slowly get used to it. I suggest going straight to Hard, skip the middle step.

Once you ''get'' the game on hard, you're good. Then, it's just a LOT of practice and stuff.

And Hybrid: Yeah, I've beat Freebird on hard, first try. I only failed one song on hard the first time I went through, and it was about half way through the game. I can almost beat Freebird on expert, but not quite. I also have yet to beat Bark at the Moon [GH1] on Expert, but I've got 81%, and could probably beat it now [I haven't played it in months].

My tip for mastering the orange fret is playing Carry on Wayward son, and always keep your index finger on the green button, unless you are playing chords, that is how i did it, i have beaten freebird on expert with 86% notes hit, and Bark at the moon with 76% on expert, i have yet to find my match(in my lame town that is) and would love an online highscore list to see how i compare with other players...i wish i wasnt unemployed

Yeah, Frets sucks but its better than nothing. I'm sure it'll improve. And yeah you just need to install the guitar drivers on your comp and set up the controls for it. It takes like 5 minutes.

It may be MS fault for the price of the songs. They regulate just about everything that comes through the market place. Right now there is a dispute b/t Epic and MS b/c Epic wants to release the new maps for free but MS is asking them to charge for the maps...

Pull offs to me are easier than hammers. You get lots of practice with those in Freebird..hard-expert.

I figured that out, it helped alot.. I used to keep my index on red, and had to stretch my pink just to reach the last key, now it is much easier.

I am still playing on hard, I am not sure if I am going to keep the game or trade it in yet... I want forza2 when it comes out.

I just played monkey wrench on hard, that song is really fun for somereason, its really fast, but really easy, I loved it.
