ipod video conversion programs

i need a program to convert my videos to ipod format, one that is free, as ive tried trials but they only do like 5 mins of the video. ive tried videora ipod converter and it doesn't work, it stays on starting video please wait, i left it on last night and it was still like that, after 8 hours! umds involved for your time.
