Ok long story short...old mobo broke...got another mobo from ebay claimed to be working..got it in..put everything together...

Pressed the power button and the system doesn't power up..it gets zero power

The power supply is fine w/ the orange (inactive) light as usual..

Does anyone have a clue what could be causing this strange problem or help point me in the right direction for answers?

Thanks

lol never DOA there is always a fault and a fix -=]

thnx for the reply though...I think i have narrowed it down to the eject button...I have found out if the eject button is held down the system will not boot and this motherboard actually is missing the eject button so something must have gone wrong there...will take the iron to it tomorrow and see if I can get it running...

this may sound retarded but.... i had this problem and i found out it was becuase i put the samll power cable from the mobo to my dvd drive in the wrong way round. Somehow the unit wouldnt switch on until i put it in the right way and for some wierd reason the little power cable can go in both ways.

System turns on 3 ways. Controller, power button, and pressing the eject button. I sure hope he tried at least 2 of the 3 mentioned lol. Now the 360 does not need the DVD drive plugged in to turn on. In fact you dont need anything but the power plugged in to the back. I would plug the fan in though so you can see if the board is getting power.

If nothing happens then your board is dead.

so why did mine not switch ion when it was plugged in my DVD drive the wrong way round? it wasnt a fluke as i tested it after

Yah in this case the board is missing the eject and sync buttons...

So I found out when the eject button is held down the system wont power on so I am wondering if with the eject button missing if its somehow fused thinking its being pressed down. So can't turn on w/ eject or sync , the power button is fine because I used the same board on another system to check that. I have made sure the solder points where the eject button was aren't touching or bridged in anyway , they look a little scorched from a soldering iron that someone must have taken to it , but all 4 points have clear openings and aren't close or touching and the traces all appear to be intact.

**UPDATE** While monkeying around with it , I tapped the board where the eject button is supposed to be and now I can get the 360 to power on both via pressing the power switch or using a media remote to power on. But nothing happens the ROL center light comes on but nothing else happens...no video , no sound....any idea whats going on here why its not fully loading?

that could cause a short or polarity problem, which would explain why it didn't turn on with it plugged in the wrong way, but can turn on w/o it plugged in at all.

btw how did you plug in the power wire backwards? There are slits to prevent that from happening...are you talking about the sata data cable?

Damn I think im screwed on this mobo I can't find anyone that has seen this problem before where it powers on but does not attempt to boot....

yup sorry didnt explain my second post at all right. You can switch it on without the DVD drive but you can switch it on with the power cable in the wrong way

That doesn't really make sense. Unless you're trying to say that you can power it on whether the DVD drive is plugged in, or plugged in the wrong way.
