I was thinking if I could get 5.1 surround sound with the Elite and my current setup.

I have my premium Xbox 360 connected to my receiver which goes to my 7.1 sound system and to my HDTV via component, and that gives me 5.1.

My receiver doesn't have HDMI I can't connect it with any HDMI cables. My TV has 2x HDMI so that shouldn't be a problem.

Is it possible to get 5.1 surround sound with HDMI with my current settings?

(I was going to fry up the memory inside, but then Best Buy didn't have any Elites in-stock)

get a digital out audio from your TV to your audio receiver.

Yup, you'll need an optical cable or coaxial cable to achive true surround sound that your receiver can decode.

So for audio the cables are component, for video it's HDMI?

Audio = RCA cables , Optical, Coaxial.

Video = Composite, S-video, Component.

HDMI is just all in one (hi-def video), but I'm not sure if the audio part can do surround sound.

I figured it out. Theres a dongle you plug into the component slot on the Elite, that is where the optical cable goes to the receiver to bring audio.

Then you plug the HDMI cable into the HDMI slot and connect it directly to your TV. So one cable does video, the other does audio if your receiver doesn't support HDMI.

Thanks again.
