I just plunged into the next gen arena with a 360 Premium and a used copy of Splinter Cell DA. I was going to get a Wii but then I realized the "fun" aspect does have a way of running out. I still will not rule out a Wii but I'm definitely surprised that I went with the 360 instead of the ps3 and being the hard core sony fan boy that I am. Maybe a price drop before the year's end and then I'll buy it.

Yea the ps3's price also strayed me away from the sony fanboy status.

I got the 360 premium also.Maybe when I actually have a job,I'll buy the ps3.

Question. I'm playing splinter cell and I did a quick save and I noticed that I only have 12gb of hdd space left out of 20gb. Is this normal? I also noticed music and videos as well.

It's shipped with a bunch of videos and games loaded on there, delete them if you dont want them.

Yeah, I just figured that out. I just deleted all that stuff. Thank you.

The used space is used for the system. You can not get 20gb. Max is 12-13

I was looking forward to have 20gb but I can live with 13. I edit video and I'm always in need of extra space.

Its actually more like 15GB when you delete the music and videos.... But yeah, a bunch of that is devoted to making the games better (faster etc.)

Are you going to get Xbox Live? Its a great service that adds alot of replay value to most games, and its only $50.00.

$50.00 a year right?

Yeah, and you bought premium so you already have the headset. Ask any member of Xbox Live and they will tell you the $50.00 a year is well worth it.

Get some codes off eBay...

Should have got the Elite..?

chkdg8
05-02-2007, 12:13 AM
To me, the Elite's not all that worth it yet. If MS releases some add on hdds, that will be awesome. 60gb, 80gb..so on and so forth.

The elite is definitely worth the price if you're just purchasing the system. If you already had a premium, then it's probably not the best upgrade.

Get the extended warranty, I'm learning you'll need it....

Pdog1
05-02-2007, 02:51 AM
It all depends on what you want to do.... 20GB (15) will be plenty for me, I HIGHLY doubt I will ever need any more than that, so to me, the only benefit of the ELITE is it's black.... not worth it at all...

Elite has IPTV capabilities (TiVo sort of thing). With a purchase of a premium and a game plus a xbox live card or something, you have spent enough to get an Elite, lol

yep but then you still have to buy the xbox live card and the game, sorry but that doesn't work.

I thought they all had that ability, all it takes is a firmware update?

At kmart, YMMV, but they have 1/yr subs for under $10!

I would suggest getting a few more games, then getting xbox live. Update us when you get it!

Make sure you get a REPLACEMENT warranrty, not just an extended warranty, with those, they will send it into microsoft, and you will be out an xbox for two weeks, with a replacement warranty, they replace it on the spot, I paid $60 for two years of replacement warranty for my 360, but I have not had one problem yet with mine, and its been like 8-9 months at least.

Because his 360 has broke a couple of times,so he learned that it's good/necessary.

My friend has gone through 3 units already but the sales rep at gamestop told me that system freezes were very common during launch time but not anymore. Does anyone recommend those fan add-ons?

I don't use them/need them,so they're more like those "hey I have money so I'll waste it on a accessory".

Well pointed out. I heard they're just as loud as the unit itself.

Fan add on is a POS. Drains power, stresses fans from the console.

Pdog1
05-02-2007, 06:08 PM
Yeah the add ons are extremely loud too... Its nice if you have bad conditions for ventilation, kinda forces ventilation but, if you are ok in that area, i wouldn't worry about it.... I've also lost a couple consoles but, both of those were launch/near launch consoles, the most recent one has been lasting me awhile...

I'll be on my third one once this is repaired, and mine is not even close to a launch 360.

sum182oftheyear, I hope I'm not as unfortunate as you. Why do you think you're having so many problems?

sum182oftheyear
05-02-2007, 07:48 PM
eh I know I'm kind of bitching about it but whatever. My dvd drive broke the first time but that was after seven or so months so the first one lasted a long time then I think they just ****ed up repairing/giving me a refurbished one so it broke after a week. Bzpot has a similar type of problem, it's a great console though, better than the Wii in my opinion, just be sure to buy the warranty.

I will buy the warranty. Now that I realize that your returns were refurbished, it makes more sense that you're still having these problems. Do you still think that your 360 has paid for itself over? Meaning, you had your for a while now and since you're obviously a hardcore gamer, I would've bought a replacement already. Of course not everyone has money to throw away and neither do I but people like us take our gaming seriously, you know? It's just a shame that they can't get your console right.

sum182oftheyear
05-02-2007, 08:42 PM
I'm not a hardcore gamer really but I do have no life due to video games lol. I feel it has definately paid for itself, all of the fun you get out of xbox live and games like Viva Pinata and Guitar Hero make it worth it. If I had the money I probably still wouldn't buy a replacement though since it's getting fixed any way

Well, I think it's safe to say that all good things come to an end. I turned on my 360 today and I got the "red circles of death". I bought it less than a week ago and I'm very disappointed that this happened. What's more disappointing to know is that this problem is extremely common so I guess I'm calling MS today and have them send me their shipping box and away we go with the repairs. sum182oftheyear, I guess you and I are in the same boat. Let's see what happens next. I just hope they don't send me a refurbished one.

if it's only a week old, i'd take the receipt, and march down to the store I purchased it from and get a brand new one.

hoenstly i love my 360 i think its a great system

but if someone told me to produce a list of the top 10 worst consoles it would be very hard not to include it in there.

The failure rate is pathetic. My own launch consloe has died once but i fixed it myself

I bought it at gamestop and they're notorious for selling used goods. I'm not going to say that my unit was used or refurbished but when I was swiping my card for the purchase, I noticed the box had a dented corner and I joked by saying "Hey, how do I know that you're not selling me a refurbished xbox 360?" You should've seen the look on this guy's face! He was so embarrassed. Then I quickly told him that I was just busting his chops. I would seriously be disappointed it this turned out to be true.

regardless of the condition when you got it. If you paid for a new system, then you should take it back and either get a refund, or a replacement. Period.

I'm back up and running. I'm not sure if anyone's aware of the "double towel wrap" (just search it youtube) but it worked like a charm. Lets' see how far I go. I'm just going on the record by saying that this method worked.
