What comes in the Xbox 360 Elite box?

Included in the box is the black 360 Elite itself, a black 120 gig HDD, one black wireless controller, black Live headset, a 6.5 foot HDMI cable, component/composite hybrid cable, ethernet cable, Xbox Live silver membership, one month subscription to Xbox Live gold. It also includes an audio adapter so you can run an optical cable or standard RCA jacks to your sound system.

I can buy the 120 gig HDD on my own, right?

Yes, for $179 (USD) you can purchase the fusion colored HDD (fusion being the original 360 color scheme). The black hard drive is only available throught he purchase of the Elite system.

How do I move data from one drive to the other?

The 120 gig hard drive includes a data transfer cable and software disc. You can use it to transfer all your data from the 20 gig to the 120 gig. This is really simple when using the same console. For those who are getting rid of the old 360 for Elite, however, there will be some difficulties. Downloaded content is tied to the console itself, not just the gamer tag. Arcade games will show up as demos only unless your signed in to Live so that your gamer tag can vouch that you own the games.

But don't I need an Elite to get HDMI?

MS doesn't expect anybody to notice an improvement in picture quality through HDMI. They just wanted to deliver what the people were asking for. HDMI looks know different than component and MS does not want people buying an Elite just for HDMI.

Why aren't the HD DVD drive and Wifi included?

Anytime you add something to a console you add price, and MS didn't want to go over the $500 mark. The HD DVD drive was not included due to the uncertainty of the success. MS also wanted to avoid confusion about what console plays what dvd type so that it didn't confuse consumers. Wifi was excluded for a couple reasons. With the new 802.11 "N" coming up, building in B/G seemed behind the times. The wifi also would have raised cost. Because the "N" wifi is far from finallized the built in wifi would have been nice.

Does the Elite come with the new 65-nanometer chip?

No.

Can existing 360 owners trade up for an Elite?

MS has no trade in deals going on but local retail stores may. The Elite was not intended to appeal to existing 360 owners because the upgrades were minor. The 120 gig HDD is available for purchase for the current 360 owners.

Why did MS build a whole new machine?

Without the Elite being created it would have put consumers in an awkward position. With the introduction of the 120 gig hard drive consumers would have to either purchase a core system and the seperate 120 gig HDD and miss out on the component cables and wireless controller or buy the premium system with the seperate hard drive and be stuck with a useless 20 gig.

Why not replace the core with the Elite?

MS still believes that their 20 gig unit will still be their sweet spot at $399. Don't expect to see 25 gig Market place downloads any time soon as MS will continually try to optimize the 20 gig hard drive experience. We may one day see the Elite replace the Premium system, but that's far off.

Should I sell my existing 360 and get an Elite?

MS doesn't want anybody getting rid of their old console to get an Elite. Just buy the new HDD.
