"Good news for gamers, if it turns out to be true. According to GameDaily, the earlier report of a PlayStation 3 US$ 100 price cut now has some kind of confirmation.



After some nosing around, the guys at GameDaily got to talk with a merchandising manager for the electronics retailer who confirmed the rumored price-cut (which will drop the price tag of Sony's console to US$ 499).

The anonymous manager also went on to say that the price cut is "retail-wide", meaning the said price cut was given by SCEA. The hundred dollar price cut will supposedly take place on July 12, though the ads hailing it will go live a couple of days later on July 15."

Seriously, you can't even get a brand new PS2 for 100 bucks right now. You think a PS3, which was far more expensive to start with, would get down that low ? C'mon, think logically. =p

I can't believe Ranhco Cucamonga made the list. That's my future hometown! If you read some of the digg (http://digg.com/playstation_3/PS3_price_drop_already_in_effect_Target_store_sell s_today_at_499_99) comments, one user mentioned that this could be a clearance issue to make way for the new 90nm technology model.
